Roos Field Renovation

I really think Hickey gets it and wish she would have been around in 2010 and taken advantage of the momentum. But she knows what we need and I believe a realistic view how to get something positive done. Think it will be slow but sure starting with what she said...seating,restrooms and concessions which most of us have been clambering for years about realistically (not an unreachable Gateway dream). Due to real financial restrictions and an entire athletic dept. wanting some pie here's what I dug up on 1st draft plans from an anonymous source not authorized to speak publicly.

* excuse my pessimism..I'm old
I think these are the amenities Hickey will bring in for the visiting Montana fans.

What is wrong with Eastern, eastern Washington and Spokane?

Come on... we can do this!!!

15,000 seats is adequate for near to mid term expansion. Last I checked, regular season average was around 10 to 11k but that is at or over official capacity of Roos. So with 15k “permanent” seats we could still squeeze in another 500-1000 folks depending on how those permanent seats are arrayed.

Where do I sign up?

I didn't hear anything about this but at least they are working on this.
Sorry but you need a subscription to read the whole story.

Now we can have some vision of what the administration is thinking of doing for a renovation.

Hopefully they choose the more expensive option since it will be done in phases. Won’t let me post pictures off my IPad, maybe someone else can?

Awesome find! I hope that you or someone else is able to find a way to share the photos because it will not let me view the last link. You have to be part of the in-crowd I think. It basically said that I do not have permission with my email address.

Love it! Go Eags!

By “donor building”, I’m guessing they mean the press box/suites?

In the last link they went somewhat into detail. Current press box has donor suites that seat 100. The new Eagle Stadium would call for an "expansion" of the current press box/donor suite structure to seat 600. The link also mentions that they'll switch (and build a undescribed structure for) "Press & Media" to the east side of the stadium.

Found it.

...By expanding the existing press box building and relocating the TV and press functions to above the new bleachers on the east side line, the number of interior viewing suites were expanded to accommodate 600 fans. The study was documented in a PowerPoint presentation that showed how it could be accomplished through the construction of 16 separate projects, each undertaken depending upon the level of fundraising success.

The way I envision that is half of the current two-floor structure must be for press/media, and the other half for Donors (and maybe one box for coaches?). So maybe a small structure is built "above the new bleachers on the east side line" for press/media, and that previous space is turned into Donor suites. That's only roughly space for 200 donors, so maybe they plan to expand one "existing structure-size" to both sides, that'd be 600. Idk, that's the way I've visualized it.

I don't know if the present administration is aware but the Press and media building was built so that a third floor could be added at a later date, that could be know?

Finally listened to Larry's podcast! I really love that the AD and School President see the need for a remodel of Woodward/Roos Field. I was very surprised when Hickey said that the president had set aside money for a Full design already. SHOVELS IN THE GROUND LET's GO! Great job everyone!!

Sounds like something is going to happen. The Gateway was an awesome vision but the scope was beyond the capabilities of the university and athletic leadership to deliver - short of someone winning the lottery and donating an insane amount of money.

Chavez did a great job but Hickey will be the one to take EWU to the next level. It's clear she knows the process.
