Roos Field Renovation

Beardown said:
Ranger - your facilities aren't on par with UNC's. The Bears have the best facilities over-all. This past year we've built new locker rooms, new academic support rooms, new weight rooms, new hall of fame room, new basketball practice facilities, new practice fields for the football team and renovations to Nottingham Field and Butler Hancock. Yes, our football "stadium" is small and so is our basketball gym, but over and based on pics that I've seen, you're behind UNC. We've spent over $16 million in facilities over the past 5 years and more to come as UNC is in the middle of a Capital Campaign.

Wrong. EWU's facilities are on par with UNC's. Our locker rooms/weight rooms were redone in 2003-2004 and are amongst the best in the conference. Remember that the Seahawks played summer camp here for many years and the school benefitted from that.

I've been to Nottingham before. Roos is a better facility, IMO, although not that much better. When it comes to basketball facilities, no comparison there - Reese Court is a far superior venue. :twocents:

Here's a picture of the EWU Football locker room. To the right are some couches and a couple of big screen TV's hooked up to a computer, DVD player, and cable, that aren't shown. The openness of this space allows the team to interact.

Granted this facility has been around for years. How do you see UNC's new locker room as better?

"The Best I've ever seen" UNC Defensive Back Corey Askew said regarding UNC's new locker rooms. He has been to Big 10 schools, WAC schools.

Sounds like a very polite young man.

Here are some pictures of our weight room:

I've been following these exchanges with interest and have searched for pictures of UNC's updated facilities without any success (the one's I posted that Beardown said didn't do the turf justice came off their own site). One would think that the University and athletic department would be touting facilites that are on par with or better than Big 10 schools by posting pictures on their official sites but didn't find anything. I'm not really into the one-up-manship aspect of this, but just curious... since you took exception to the comparison, what do they look like, Beardown? There's been some pictures posted of our locker room and weight room and we pretty much know the things that need to be improved about our stadium and we really do want to see what we can aspire to with some political will and fundraising success by seeing what you've done with your upgrades.

Of course having great facilities is one thing, but what really matters is what you do with them.

Here are some examples of high spirited Eagles making the most of their excellent facilities.

This IS Eastern Washington Football.
Continually building on strength.

Hannah, you're a girl posting about football so I'll make it simple for you. I've seen our facilities, weight room, locker rooms, etc. They surpass you. I didn't make the claim that they were on par with Big 10 schools, one of our players did. Both schools do need to upgrade football "stadiums" though and you do have a bigger basketball gym. As I mentioned, we're going through a capital campaign and UNC's facilities will again get a facelift, along with the over 16$million we've already spent since the transition. As for the pics, we did have some up on the website, not sure why they took them down.

Grow up, and try to stop being a misogynistic moran and you'll realize that my gender has nothing to do with my football knowledge or my ability to comprehend what you have written. All I asked was where are the pictures that would give us an idea about the facilities you referred to and that the player in the article compared to WAC and PAC 10 (now PAC 12) schools. It's unlikely that I'll get to Greeley and I was curious to see what you were talking about ... Obviously, you're an officious jerk so I'll stop wasting my time. :tothehand:

+1

UNC is cool if you like walking a quarter mile from the visitor's locker room (which is, MAYBE, 300 st ft) just to get to the field. The weight room was clean but undersized IMO. Also, the overhead shot is a pretty good representation of the quality of the turf. The town was nice though, so there's that.

Beardown,
HannahO, is one lady you do not want to mess with, she knows her "Stuff" when it comes to sports and more.
I was going to utilize another word in the place of "STUFF", I don't want the younger ones to get ideas from my posting. ;) HANNAHO :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: for you. Go Eagles. Vic

Beardown - Your facilities may be great, but until you can win some games, nobody cares. You talk about $16 million dollars being put into your facilities over 5 years, that translates out to about $1.8 million for every win you have had the past 5 years or since your transition, no thanks.

Way to let the air out of his balloon and kick the guy in the teeth. Ouch!

marceagfan - That's BS. That $16 million went into facilities for ALL sports, not just football. All sports have benefited from the fundraising. We've won Big Sky titles in mens hoops and volleyball. Not sure if you follow college basketball but we won the conference and made it to the NCAA Tourney in just our 5th year since moving up. Not too shabby.

Beardown you make some good points and we should all be happy to see other Big Sky schools making such nice improvements to their facilities. There is a lot of that going on this off season with MSU, Weber, Idaho State etc. This is crucial to Big Sky dominance of the FCS.

I agree with you eaglesfootball! I'm all for any improvements that all Big Sky schools make. (except maybe Montana) I just hope EWU can continue to make major improvements the Roos Field. Scoreboard, stands, i've even heard people mention new lights. Lights should definitely be one of the last things IMO, but any improvements are always welcome!

Does anyone know what the plans are for the south endzone concession stand building? I noticed they tore the roof off about a month ago, but nothing has been done since. Also, some of the dirt behind the building is dug up....just curious if anyone knew what they were planning?

Good question....haven't been out there recently. I wonder what they're doing.

Saw there was some 7,400 or so at the WSU game. Keep winning and we could close out the season strong. Perhaps this and a solid attendance last year will give reason for the university to put some money into the stadium?
