roster

One player wanted to be closer to home
One player wanted to be further from home
Two graduates
Two more playing time
Does this answer your question?

Earning playing time is part of collegiate sports, players should know that and be developed to want to do that; a poor fit emotionally is often an unknown that becomes apparent late but again the players who leave after one season are not being supported during this growth phase and to me that is all on the coaches.
I did not, for obvious reasons, count the graduates as part of the worrisome trend.

Are you expierenced in collegate coaching at Div. 1? Find out the circumstances before blaming the coaching staff.

not really, just pointing out a worrisome trend. I think player departure is a good performance metric outside of W/L. It is something that one can measure with like programs and I feel reflects alot about a program's health. That being said, it is uncommon to have 4 of one's own recruited players depart. Typically players leave when there is a coaching change. It is a huge decision to leave a scholarship for an unknown future, to possibly sit a year, and to go to another unknown coaching situation - it should not be taken lightly and to see so many leave in one year is something to be evaluated, IMHO :notworthy:

@foscar; I think freja brings up some good points, which you seem to take personally. As an observer of PSU Women's basketball for the past several years I've noticed the pattern of yearly player transfers too. I think player transfers reflect a coach's performance in a similar way as turnovers are used to evaluate a player's performance. When excessive turnovers result in losses, a player usually has their playing time reduced, and, at the D1 level, there are usually other players who competitively grab those minutes. Ultimately, wins and losses provide an indisputable evaluation metric of the coach's performance. At the D1 level, highly-paid head coaches are always judged by their records. It comes with the job, and you know what they say about not being able to stand the heat...
As long as comments posted in this forum are in good taste, and not personal, I think that constructive criticisms are completely fair game.

Foscar, hope you can participate in discussions without getting worked up; it's all in the spirit of discussion. I have nothing to lose but you seem so invested maybe it's harder for you to be objective!

I can be objective without always being negative. Let's see how this team does with all the changes. They maybe a better team with them. If not, possibly you are right.

Question: how many programs have this much turnover?

Point: listening to comments about the state of NCAA men's basketball, at least half. Probably more.

Doesn't mean this scene isn't a little troubling, but it gets harder by the day to respect the system. I think you'll see more instead of less out of principle.

I wondered what happened to Olden over on the volleyball team. Now I know. She shifted over to basketball and now is posted as center. Another dimension to the roster you folks are talking about. Seeman has a plethora of good volleyball players and could afford to lose her; Murrell desperately needs heighth. Good decision on Olden's part. And best wishes for her, playing in another sport her senior year.

should be nice for them to have an actual center, last one was probably Wade. I wonder if Olden has kept up with BBall skills? and yes awesome to be able to maximize your senior year! wish her and the team good luck! :thumb:

Given Julius Thomas, anything is possible...
