Round 2 - who do you want?

We will play one of these 6 teams:CSUB, USU, UCSB, UI, CSUF, or LMU.

CSU Bakersfield (16-14) @ Utah State (17-15). Likely winner is USU as they are favored to win by 11 points and they are playing at home and CSU Bakersfield is 0-5 against the WAC this year.

UC Santa Barbara (20-10) @ Idaho (18-13) - this is a pickem by the odds makers. I will take Idaho to win only because they are at home - but I wouldn't be surprised to see UCSB pull off the road win.

Cal State Fullerton (21-9) @ Loyola Marymount (19-12) - LMU is favored to win by 7, which equates to about a 75% chance of winning the game (according to the Sagarin Predictor). LMU had a much tougher conference schedule than Fullerton and should win.

So it will most likely be USU, Idaho, and LMU moving on (with a chance of UCSB getting by Idaho). I would be shocked to see Bakersfield beat USU in Logan.

The RPI of these teams would be as follows (#'s do not reflect CIT games):
Weber 70
LMU 118
UCSB 119
USU 143
Idaho 146

Who do you want to face in the second round? Who would you prefer to avoid?

I would like to see Idaho come into the Dee on Friday or Saturday night.

I think USU will be playing LMU or UCSB, most likely in Logan.

I don't think Weber will play USU in the second round - that would be the match-up for the third round and most likely in Ogden (if RPI and record mean anything).

Look for CS-Fullerton to possibly pull an upset against a big, athletic LMU team. I watched Fullerton destroy EWU by 20, they beat the Utes by 40 at the Huntsman, & they were the only Big West team to beat Long Beach St. Lillard has a buddy, who is there best player.

Obviously, I am wasting time at work today, but others on this board have posted that USU would host over WSU. I am not entirely sure this would be the case, but you never know.
I think both would sell about the same number of tickets and I think a lot of people would show up for that game (either in round 2 or 3). You would likely see 6 or 7k either in Ogden or Logan.

WSU should get the home game based upon the following criteria:

RPI
WSU 70 USU 143

Record
WSU 25-5 USU16-15

Head to Head win on November 11
WSU 73 USU 63

The only edge USU has is SOS. Everything else points to Weber getting the home game.

I think Santa Barbara beats Idaho but either way I want the winner. It also makes the most sense to give us that winner and not USU. We have already played USU and USU has already played Idaho and UCSB.

So giving usu the fullerton/lmu winner would be better too.

if we can manage to win another home game and so can usu, i do like that semifinal matchup.

i think it would be in logan though and not ogden, if either school can get 7,000 for that game then it will be in logan since usu is charging 17 and we are charging 10. no?

if a hypothetica 7k showed up to either arena....that would mean about 6,500 tkt x $10 = 65,000 + 500 x $5 = 2,500. so $67,500. in logan that would likely be 5,000 x $17 = $85,000 + 2,000 x $5 = 10,000. so $95k.

if it comes down to $ only as it likely will, i dont think the CIT will care about RPI or head to head much like the FCS playoffs excluding the 4 seeds.

also the quarterfinals will be next tues/wed so no weekend game if both wsu and usu were to win 2nd rd games at home vs other opponents.

idaho would be fun since it has been FOR EVER, uscb would be fun since dame's cousin is on the team and robbie johnson's younger brother.

The price to host a first round game was $31,000. Weber had probably hoped to break even, but with 1 day to get the word out, & spring break lost $8,000 - $9,000 last night.

Hopefully we can make that up, as I see a weekend crowd w/ more marketing time at 4,000-5,000.

As of Sunday night everybody expected a road NIT game.

If the game had been tonight with the other Western teams I think it would have helped.

I think USU is the only team to charge $17, because their fans will pay it, & they get to keep the extra, & try to profit even more. They are the only team charging more than $10 in the entire CIT. I don't think that we can safely say that the CIT neccesarily prefers USU as the prefered site, because they're going to get there guaranteed monies regardless of who sells more tickets, or generates more income off of ticket sales.

also may have lost more than $8,000-$9,000, as I wonder if that fee to the CIT, probably doesn't cover ushers, employee's, & just turning the lights on in general.

I also understand we pay the chubby guy with the microphone a lot of cash to run around, & say things like "make some noise" hundreds of times. I think he makes $100 every time he says "Make Some Noise"

Not sure what is going to happen, but I think a lot of it depends on who wins today/tonight. Pretty sure that the committee already had an idea of who would play whom after the first round. Weber and USU, if the Ags win, will both have home games for Round 2. As for the next round. Who knows. I'm with Catcat though, if both Weber and USU keep winning, I could see USU getting the home game. Do they deserve it? NO...but, the deserving usually don't profit. Weber being in the CIT is a prime example of that. Anyway, I don't care where the Cats play, as long as I can go to the games.

Just talk to some guys in the athletic dept and with everthing said and done we lost a little over 31,000 on that game last night. Ouch! Also just a little inside scoop I found out, The CIT promised stew morrill 2 home games if they would play in the tourney. so... once agian weber gets crapped on. doesnt matter our rpi, record or anything. It comes down to the CIT promising usu they can host 2 games. This is the kind of crap you have to deal with when you lose and get put into these sh!t tournments. Dont get me wrong I am very happy we are still playing ball but these kind of tournments have no structure or rules. :wall:

ball playrz,

lets hold off before we get mad. there is still a chance we can both get a home game this weekend. as far as losing 31k on last night's game if that was an issue we would have turned down the tournament.

If I had to choose, I would choose Idaho, it's been a long time and they would be forced to play us in the tournament instead of not wanting to play us.

And even though it might sound chicken of me, I kinda hope Bakersfield beats USU, ONLY because it would mean Weber would continue to host the games at least till the semi's. (If they made it that far) I dont want to see Weber have to play in Logan against a 17-15 Aggie team with an RPI of 144 just because they might get about 1000 more people than us.

Weber has the best record and the highest RPI, this team DESERVES homecourt throughout.

I'd love to play the Aggies again, but at the same time, I don't want to risk losing to them and ruining our bragging rights for this season. The way WSU is playing right now doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me that they'd be able to put USU away this time around. :?
