Rule changes galore

The NCAA is extensively changing the rules for both men's and women's hoops, moreso on the men's side, but with farther reaching effects, IMO, on the women's side. The biggest changes for both involve time outs and how they're applied. The women are going to four ten-minute quarters (with team foul counting changed to reflect that), but the men are not. While I like aligning the women's game to reflect HS/NBA, one would think that it would be a good idea to make that a global college rule, not just a "women's thing." That'll be one extra difference for refs to have to remember.

Your opinion is greatly desired. On SacBuzz, at least. I'm sure the powers that be couldn't care less what we think, but I certainly value your opinion.

I haven't really reviewed the men's changes yet, but I find the women's changes to be a mixed bag. I like going to four quarters (being influenced by football, of course), but I'm not sure I like how they're counting team fouls: they are to reset after each quarter, and the bonus kicks in at FIVE fouls. The single bonus (currently set at seven team fouls) resulting in a one-and-one is eliminated; the new five-foul bonus is identical to the old ten-foul double bonus with two free throws. Personally, I'd rather see team fouls continue to reset at the HALF, allowing them to carry over from 1Q to 2Q and 3Q to 4Q, thus retaining the current seven- and ten-team foul bonus thresholds. I'm not convinced about the time out changes; perhaps you guys have something to say about that.
