From what I have been hearing is that Ingram was basically suspended from the "get go"....whether it's a buy out or firing, it makes not to much difference. The cost to the school is basically the same and less chance of any repercussion.
Kelley will remain with the staff and has assumed the recruiting coordinator roles, not sure if he is taking over as RB coach or not...will check
Like I mention before, the outcome/fall out from the letter to the school, press and NCAA will not result in any major sanctions...if anything it will result in existing coaches taking a training with the NCAA reviewing rules and possibly a 1 scholarship reduction for a year or 2, which as scary is that is, means nothing to Sac State as they routinely offer out below the 63 allowed for 1-AA...usually around the 60-61 range.
Sac state used the accusations and letter to basically clean house and start anew...we all know that if Sperbeck and staff would have a few playoff appearances under his belt, the school would have took the hand slap and he would have remained at the helm.
I for one am excited that we are letting the coaches in place run the show...all new blood. Though I respect the Hornet coaches of the past, I believe it's time for people outside of the alumni to run the show...Petterson finally has full reins on the offense and we are basically revamping the D. I would like to see a Head Coach come in, but am OK with Sears being in charge for the season.
Cool story....a couple weeks ago the team was helping with a fundraising event and during the cleanup they were messing around and riding a mechanical bull...kids were having a blast...well they challenged Coach Sears and after a bit of egging on he jumped on and rode it...getting the kids really fired up...doesn't relate much to anything on the field, but it does show that the kids relate and believe in him and want to perform for him...so hoping it all goes well this season.
A lot of people are sort of writing off this season because of a coaching change...that makes me chuckle, these players understand the business aspect of it now and have dealt with a lot more adversity than this over the course of their college careers...this is just a speed bump.
Looking forward to the season!!!
