MSU will be coming into this game on a 6 game losing streak but the Hornets have yet to win a game on the road. MSU lost to UNC last night and squeaked by the Hornets 5 weeks ago. If the Hornets show up this could be a close game. I don’t know if MSU is having any health issues that may affect their key players.

Key Players:
  • • Rush, G: 15.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.5 spg, 43.1% FG’s, 32.7% 3’s, 68.3% FT’s
    • Howard, F: 14.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 39.3% FG’s, 31.1% 3’s, 58.0% FT’s
    • Singleton, G: 7.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.1 spg, 43.2% FG’s, 41.5% 3’s, 63.5% FT’s
    • Peipoli, F: 6.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 34.0% FG’s, 32.0% 3’s, 87.1% FT’s

Howard is their big man but is not even in the same class as Qvale and Selvig are for UM so the Hornets should have better luck defending and attacking the interior. I’m not too sure on how the Hornets should go about this one but they will probably go back to what they are more comfortable with on defense in stead of the press they showed at UM. Offensively they should have more success with Dickson and Alpha inside since MSU’s bigs aren’t nearly as dominating as UM’s. If the Hornets keep the turnovers down and can win the boards, they will have a chance in this one. As always I will be hoping for the younger players to see time on the court. I’m not sure if I will see much or any of this game so hopefully someone can post a review of how this one goes down.

Go Hornets!

MSU is a mess right now, they are not playing as a team, they shoot way too many contested bombs and they lack a team leader. When they were playing at Weber, it didnt even seem like the MSU players even cared. Weber did all the hustling.

I think Sac has a great chance at winning this game on Sunday.

15:52 7-6 MSU in the 1st. Both teams have good ball movement and are getting open looks. Dickson and Alpha have early scores from shots in/near the paint. MSU has had a couple of offensive boards that has allowed second chance points.

13-9 Hornets 11:24 in the first. MSU is double teaming the post man when it is dumped inside. The game has gotten a little sloppy by both teams. Hornets are dreadful from 3.

20-20 3:50 left in the 1st. MSU has moved to a 2-3 zone and the Hornets have had to settle for deep shots. The Hornets have abandoned the inside game and now everyone is jacking up 3’s.

27-25 Hornets at half. Hornets let a 3rd chance tip in at the buzzer.

Oh, I just spotted your post SDH, but since I wrote all this already, I'll just send mine in.

The Hornets are holding their own today vs Montana State and lead at the half, 27 to 25. We're fortunate that the Bobcats shoot as poorly as we do, so we're in it. We're 3 of 12 from the 3 point line. We're really covering Rush closely and he's only got 2 points and is having a tough time getting a shot off. The Hornets really messed up the last half minute of the half as we called a time out to set up a play and then promptly made a turnover and the Bobcats got two tip in attempts at the buzzer and the second one went in from a 5'10" guard! I hope that's not the basket that causes us the game.

The Hornets had an 8 point lead at one point. Dickson has 8 to lead the way. Coach keeps pulling him out, sits him for a minute or two and then puts him back in. Dickson looks a little frustrated with that. N'Diaye got two fouls again, but Coach put him back in and that's helped us as he has five as does Hoffman. Howard has 10 for MSU.

This one could come down to the wire just like the one at the Hornets Nest. We need to win this time tho.

No worries TGH, I wasn't sure I'd get to see this one and I might miss the end of the game.

42-29 Sac 15:40 left. The Hornets started the 2nd half on a great run and TB has gotten hot from deep. MSU still grabbing a lot of offensive boards.

50-37 Sac 11:52 left. MSU has switched to a full court press and it has flustered the Hornets on offense. MSU still having trouble making its shots but are getting bailed out with questionable foul calls. TB is taking over. He just drained another 3. Hornets have had a few good plays in transition. Alpha is really good about getting down the court for a feed to the basket. He has been getting fouled and has been hitting most of his FT’s. Hornets need to keep the petal down here.

53-45 Sac with 9:39 left. MSU is killing the Hornets on the cuts to the basket and the Hornets having ball handling issues with the press. Hoffman had a nice save with a timeout before going out of bounds…and out of the timeout the Hornets run the volleyball offense that gets nothing. MSU seems to have some momentum here as they have dominated the offensive glass.

55-49 Sac with 7:44 left. It’s unraveling for the Hornets but they are hanging tough. I’ll miss the end so I hope the Hornets can hold on.

We need to break their rhythm somehow and make our free throws or we're going to give this one away - a 15 point lead, but too early for us to hold a lead that long - 13 minutes. Come on Hornets!

The Hornets hold on for a 74 to 71 win despite trying to give it away with terrible ball handling and offensive fouls (maybe 20 turnovers) and allowing MSU to get several 2nd and 3rd attempts. MSU missed an off balance shot to tie it with a second to go and the Hornets get their first road win of the season. We should've never let it get this close, but that's our team!

Great road win. Scary though. TSB, Duro and Hoffman missed FTs late, but made just enough to keep a lead. Katz went to the spread offense early and TSB was aggressive going to the basket. Hoffman has to handle the ball better with pressure. Katz really has them playin well winning 4 of last 6 and playing competitively in 6 of the last 7 games.

Katz installment of the spread is a good wrinkle. I think TSB is more comfortable being aggressive when he has space. He uses his left hand just often enough to make it hard for Singleton to stay with him. I'm sure Northern AZ and WSU will prepare for it if they sent someone to that game or can get the tape. It'd be nice to see Katz add some options to it.

I think the team is confident enough to win the next 2 at home. I'm sure they'll play competitively in both. Good to see they still have a shot at the BSC Tournament with only 3 games left. :D

Solid win. They played well early on and it’s good to see this team win a road game this season. As usual the Hornets let the lead evaporate but at least they held on this time. We won’t resume BSC play until after next week. Hopefully the Hornets can keep their momentum and pull out a win on the road at SEMO in the meaningless Bracketbuster game next week.

NAU has been terrible on the road this season as they lost at ISU last night. WSU is on a hot streak and is really coming alive down the stretch. There is craziness up and down the BSC standings right now. UM & UNC are neck and neck for the 1st and 2nd seeds with WSU breathing down their neck. Then there is just a jumble of teams battling for the remaining seeds. MSU and EWU are at 5 BSC wins with the Hornets and ISU with 4 wins.
