SAC STATE NEEDS TO MOVE TO THE BIG WEST CONFERENCE!

I know this topic had been visited before, but it needs to be brought up again. Sac State needs to move to the Big West Conference in-order to attract more recruits and fans.

Not gonna happen. Sac has already been kicked out of the Big West once, and they're not going to take us back. I'm not sure I see how being in the Big West would attract more recruits. Not only would we have to figure out a place to "park" the football team (the Big Sky probably won't give us the sweetheart deal they gave CP and UCD), but there are some pretty bad dumps in the Big West (not the least of which is that "gym" (it's not even worth being called that) at UC Riverside. There are a handful of good arenas there (The Pyramid and the Bren come to mind), but that's about it. Plus, we'd be stuck with either a crappy place for the conference tournament (the ACC) or we'd suffer with the lone TV game at the Pond looking VERY empty.

We're MUCH better off in the Big Sky, IMO....

The way I see it, if Sac State were to be in the Big West, more California recruits will be more keen to come to Sac. College athletes like to move far away from home but at the same time, play in front of their family. Since the Big West is pretty much a "California conference" with the exception of Hawaii, kids will be willing to go to school in Sac because it will give their parents an opportunity to watch the games. (I'm talking specifically about Basketball, and somewhat Baseball [though we are getting a lot of highly rank/touted Sacramento-area baseball recruits). Recently, Men's basketball has been getting better high school recruits, but compare to lower-tier Big West schools, Sac is still falling behind when it comes to Cali recruits. On average, there are about 7-10 of ESPN top50 Cali recruits that commits to Big West Schools.

As a program, the only player ever to commit to Sac from Cali top 50 was SF Nick Hornsby.
And from my knowledge, Sac was NEVER in the Big West. So i'm not sure what you mean when you said "Sac has already been kicked out of the Big West once, and they're not going to take us back". The only time that Sac was affiliated with the Big West was from 1996-2002 for Baseball before they moved to the WAC.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Our baseball team moved to the WAC because it got kicked out of the Big West....

The BW isn’t happening unless we drop football. And if we drop football then I couldn’t care less where the other sports land. We struggle to bring in top notch recruits mostly because of our horrendous facilities. Our conference affiliation has some impact as well, but both the BSC and BW are bottom tier D1, one bid conferences so I don’t think the BW would help Hornet hoops land significantly better recruits. As a whole, neither conference is any good on the hardwood.

One good thing about getting into the BW is that we wouldn’t need a new arena. The Nest would be about on par for some of the dumps currently used by some BW schools.
