Sac State Part 2

They owe us one, having stolen the first game of the conference season in Sacramento. Viks only loss in the rental house has been to Montana and that is not looking too bad right now. Home is usually a better place to play in conference. I'm hoping Hollins is ready to go as we certainly need his hustle and aggressiveness. We need a statement. We need this one.

Scores from the conference tonight

Montana 71, Southern Utah 47
Northern Arizona 77, Montana State 75 :o
Eastern Washington 95, North Dakota 71
Northern Colorado 80, Idaho 63 :o

Based on the video with Coach Peery the school posted today it sounds like Hollins is out until at least next Thursday as he’s had pneumonia as a well as a dislocated thumb.

We should be able to get the win without him on Saturday, but could definitely use him against Idaho and Eastern.

That was brutal, Sac State is not a good team and they won going away, at our place. The shot selection by this team can be horrendous at times (especially Canda) and not sure why the Hornets are able to dictate the tempo so much against us. Edwards has looked really out of shape all year and I wonder if that contributes to him being so foul prone, being a Division 1 athlete I'm surprised he's not more committed to having good nutrition/conditioning. Not having North hurt, but we should have been able to win without him (anyone have word on the reason for his suspension?). It also seemed like Woods barely played in the second half which is surprising given he often plays 35+ minutes.

At least we got Hollins back and he looked close to 100%. Winning the conference regular season is pretty much off the table now, but I still think this team is good enough to win the league tournament if they're close to fully healthy and can get back to playing their best ball.

Sac State can dictate tempo because they have someone quick in the post who can make moves, and while that team isn’t that talented, they played smart and disciplined.

It’s... eh... maybe I’m just frustrated. Shots didn’t fall. Yet I have the feeling that PSU tried to force EVERYTHING in the second half, and that’s not how PSU wins, especially without North. Sac knew to get out on Mayhew and he became uncommonly useless. After that, he sees the bench and there was no looking for a shooter in space... except Edwards, and one wonders why PSU forgot post play. PSU played dumb, and it’s getting a little late in the year for that to happen.

I really don't believe there are many athletic programs that can kill buzz as quickly and as effectively as our Vikings can. Our mascot should be Icarus.

Well that was a terrible basketball game to sit through.

Some thoughts:

- North. Well, apparently we really miss our leading scorer. So a suspension?

- Hollins! Hate to see his comeback in a loss, but good to see him out there.

- How in the hell does a 7’1” 290 pound center get backed down and two-handed stuffed on in a one on one isolation play? I get it that Edwards is not a defensive beast, but come on man, don’t let that happen. You’re probably going to foul out, but don’t let that happen. Hammer the guy on that play and set tone.

- Officiating was complete garbage today.

- We looked completely baffled today. Offense looked confused. Defense allowed a ton of buckets inside. Seeing the Sac State bench versus ours for the second half was very telling of the resulting outcome.

- Perhaps we’ll come out stronger against Idaho / Eastern in this coming week, but to be honest, what I saw today wasn’t worth the drive…

Unusually quiet. No one is saying anything. Nothing on twitter from North, or the coaches, or PSU. Strange. :?

Similar to other Viking basketball seasons. Start off strong, get everyone's hopes up, then lay an egg mid-season. We are so much better than this. :ohno:
