$1.8M into the Nest is significant, especially since it will mostly benefit the athletes via locker room upgrades. Doesn’t change the fact that a new on campus venue is needed, but capacity is the least of our needs as only a couple games a season reach capacity. Also the City and the Kings/NBA partnered up to construct a state of the art arena downtown which is scheduled to open for the ’16 season (ground broke last month) so there will be the possibility to play games there. I don’t thing spending the money to rent that venue should be used on BSC games, but hopefully it can be used to leverage better OOC games.
As far as the other upgrades are concerned, baseball made the NCAA regional’s last year so getting lights and a regarded field is HUGE. Those improvements should keep our baseball coach here for the long term. The other improvements are minor in comparison to these two upgrades.
These improvements are significant not only because they will improve facilities, but because we have an interim AD who has only been on the job since July 1st and is already making waves just 2 months into the gig. Couple that with an energetic associate AD who is heading up fund raising and building alumni support and suddenly there is reason for Hornet fans and alums to be optimistic about what else might get done.
