Where the hell was Wade? and what is wrong with Claire?? she's not shooting?? Totally out played in the second half.....no no no post defense Sac state had an amazing shooting percentage wow

Wade? Well, she got her 7 minutes which is 2 more than the last time PSU played Sac State and 3 less that the game with Eastern Washington when she dominated the game during her play. But, this is just the way it is. PSU is killed in the second half when Sac State posts up and all the players except the woman guarding the player posting up stand around and watch. In the first place does anyone consider denying the ball? In the second place, where is the weak side help. In the third place, why does PSU send a guard to do a post's work? Is there anything wrong with having 3 front line players in the game at the same time?

Two examples from tonight. Kelly Marchant was 6 for 9 in 11 minutes. that is right 11 minutes..she finished with 3 fouls. She did not play in the latter part of the game. She sat on the bench while Lexi, bless her heart, was like a deer in the headlights against the press. This is not unusual. When the game becomes a free throw contest, she is often on the bench although she leads the league in free throw percentage.
Wade looked like she was expecting to be benched if she made a mistake. She did, however, have 3 rebounds in 5 minutes and played post defense. Wade is the team's best rebounder and interior defender. If you look at the minutes she plays and her production, this is clear. As noted above, no-one denied the ball and no-one gave any weak side help. The only player who does this on a consistent basis is Wade. But she sat on the bench.

One of the things the coaches raved about was that this team has great depth. If this is so, why do only 6 players get regular playing time? This is basically what the team is becoming..a 6 player rotation with 4 guards.

points in the paint and points off turnovers check that stat
and how can Lexi lead the league in FT percent while shooting 57%, that can't be right....

Turnovers, turnovers, TURNOVERS... It's like we had never, ever seen a trapping defense before...amazing. Many of the turnovers in the second half occurred on inbounds plays or on our half of the court. All those turnovers led to barely contested transition baskets in the paint because we were mostly downcourt and out of position defensively. SS's high shooting percentage in the second half reflects that, although they did shoot the ball extremely well because their confidence soared and seemed to feed on itself when we consistently kept handing them the ball.
No need to mention any names here, the turnover stats in the box score says it all. Our young ladies looked like they'd had buttery popcorn for their pregame meal the way the ball kept squirting out of their hands. We are continuing to have a problem with quick, aggressive, trapping defenses, and tend to panic when the pressure is applied, causing us to play faster than we're capable, resulting in turnovers. Coach needs to call timeouts, calm everyone down, and resort to a slow down, half court attack, if necessary, just to maintain possession. We don't need to play at a frantic pace on every offensive possession to be successful. We also need to have our very best ball handlers in the game when the trap comes, as it inevitably will, when other Big Sky coaches view this game tape. I'm sure Coach will be working hard on handling the press in practice this week! All good teams have one characteristic in common above all else: THEY VALUE THE BALL (I got that from Pat Summit). Hang on to the ball and you have a good chance of winning.
Secondly, if Wade is healthy, she's GOT to be on the floor for more than a measly 7 minutes!!! Last night, her defensive presence was sorely missed and SS feasted on us deep in the paint. Let's face it, Wade is a shot blocking prodigy and a rebounding machine during her limited minutes. Our whole interior defense gets soft when she's not in the game. Granted, she might not score 20 points, but, her intimidating defense more than makes up for any perceived liability she has on the offensive end.

Freja: I meant Kelly Marchant. Marchant leads the league and sits on the bench. U are right the turnovers and points in the paint tell the story.
