The celebration call was for unsportsmanlike conduct. The receiver, in his excitement, tossed the football up in the air; because he doesn't have the quarterback's accuracy , the ball went out of bounds, hit the canopied area behind the east side of the goal line and bounced out of the field of play. Unfortunately, the referee saw the whole thing, probably thought it was "unsportsmanlike: i.e. purposeful" then threw the flag. I think the time out penalty was because the captain of the offense didn't make the announcement for a timeout soon enough before the delay of game penalty.

On that timeout deal, did we actually lose the time out or was the scoreboard not correct?

We didn't lose it. We were assessed the penalty, five yards and then we were granted the timeout, which was asked for and accepted by the referee after the flag had been dropped. It was clear from my seat (section 217) that about 9 players were trying to get the ref's attention to stop the clock. What I'm not sure is if the call for time-out has to be to the ref, head linesman or umpire.

Gotcha, thanks for that. I think due to all of the confusion, I didn't realize that there actually had been time called.

I thought the players were pointing out that the clock hadn't stopped while the chains were being moved, and that had lead to a delay of game penalty, which in turn, had been followed by a timeout. Either way, it was all very confusing and made worse by the PA system, which prevented us from hearing the ref's explanation.

PA system at PGE Park is the worst. I don't even try to listen as it takes too much effort, and even at that, I can only make out half of the words.
