Sacramento State @ PSU

Ok, I think my anger about our debacle from the free throw line last week is gone now (well, not really).

Time to right the ship and get to 2-1.

Northern Colorado was a needless loss. Needless free throw misses. Free throws should be at least 80 percent. They should practice 100 a day until they get the kinks out. They may suffer psychologically from "all or nothing" thinking instead of playing the odds.

Why does this program not sustainably improve?

Why does this program not sustainably improve?

Not a single program in the Big Sky is shooting >=80% for free throws on the season. 80% is not going to happen. A consistent free throw percentage between 65-70% would satisfy me. It would be middle of the pack in the conference, but we'd at least know what we can expect.

19%, 50%, 77%, 84%, it's all over the place this season.

Consistency, yes.

Here's a better reference standard to benchmark:

2016-17 Team FT%
1 Notre Dame (Atlantic Coast) 84.4
2 Marquette (Big East) 81.4
3 Valparaiso (Horizon) 79.9
4 Michigan (Big Ten) 79.4
5 South Dakota St. (Summit League) 79.2

We should do as least as well as South Dakota State.

Lots of great basketball in town tonight, hoping the weather doesn't throw a monkey wrench into things. Blazers host Detroit, Gonzaga is over at the Chiles Center...and in the best game of the night, we entertain Sac State. Everybody do their sun dance.

Looks like the Blazer game was just postponed. I wonder if we'll get our game in.

UP just postponed their sellout game with the Zags. I'm assuming that we're probably going to follow suit.

:crybaby: :tantrum:

Well, all those stranded downtown need to go somewhere. Why not the Stotts Center? :thumb:

See you there... :thumb:

I think there's about 75 people there, and I'm not one of them. Not sure who's in my seats, but I see you.

Why do we need foul trouble to see Rumel out there against a team that has size on us? Four points in five minutes and adding some size inside. Isolate that guy on the side and get some pick and roll action going. We don't often have a big in the game, so something other than the weave in halfcourt may cause confusion.

I agree. Use your personnel to greatest advantage. Piss-poor usage of player personnel. That is probably why this coach keeps losing games they should have won and why they barely beat teams they should blow out. He's assembled a terrific cast of players, but this coach squanders games because he doesn't know how to motivate them.

I see this as another Nigel Burton case. Great recruiting, but it should be for someone who is a head coach and not just a recruiter-assistant. I believe we have a recruiter-assistant as a head coach who is supremely more valuable as a recruiter-assistant. He could likely become one for a bigger-name school right now.

Let's bring back Ken Bone. He's assisting up at Gonzaga. Maybe he'd like to take us beyond where he took us last time.

I had the perfect sign, but they took it away from me. It read, "I'm here. Where are you?"

Never tell a former Montanan they can't drive somewhere, although it did take me over an hour to get back over Sylvan into Beaverton.

:D

Against Sacramento we posted 78% on FT, 50% on 2s, 36% on 3s. Looks pretty good to me. It's a vast improvement over last year's team, which is all I ask. Good chance we'll take UNA and SUU. Go Viks!

Its NAU, not UNA. I still like what you're sayin' however. :thumb:

NAU is a tough place to play regardless of their record. 7000' never bodes well for teams that can only acclimate for 24-48 hours and like to play an up tempo game.

A 1-1 road trip will be just fine by me.

A split on the road is all anyone can ask for. A sweep, however, is gravy.

Looks like we weren't able to get out of the city for the NAU game. Not much of a surprise given that I'm staring at a little over a foot of snow from my office window. Sounds like we will play Monday afternoon.

Karma is against us, being that we played Sac State in the ice storm.
