Sacramento State

I know there's a lot of basketball to go, but Sacramento State is looking pretty solid at 9-1. I know they have five of the last eight on the road, but I found this story interesting. They're in the same boat that we are with hosting (very small arena), but we're lucky enough to have two large arenas as a possibilities to host.

Hopefully we can beat them in both games in the next few weeks and this will be a non-story. :)

Interesting that they considered Davis. I don't think the Aggies would let Sac State live that one down, that the Hornets had to "host" the conference tournament at Davis. Neither one of those fan bases really like each other.

correct on Davis and Sac State. Fierce rivals in all sports for over 60 years.Only 21 miles separates the two schools. Biggest rivals in the Big Sky for football, biggest rivals for mens soccer in the Big West, biggest rivals for gymnastics in the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation And rivals even in non conference sports like baseball (WAC for the Hornets) and most other sports. Sac State has multiple sports in other conferences besides the Big Sky. And even when Sac State takes on Davis in Big Sky sports like basketball where Davis is not a member it is a huge rivalry.

It would be really cool to have a rival in the Big Sky but Sac State does not. Think it would be somehow great for Sac State and Portland to foster a rivalry as the two metropolitan schools in the Big Sky and the two shcools with two Pac 12 schools within our regions capturing a lot of the college sports attention.. Portland State is the closest Big Sky school to Sac State, just a mere 400 plus miles away.

If I remember correctly, the Sac State student body voted to build a rec center/arena. Am I wrong in understanding that the arena funds got diverted, while the Wellness Center got built?

Anyway, the Wellness Center is the final choice to host the tournament if Sac wins the regular season.

That pretty much sums it up. Students approved a rec center AND event center in 2004. Our football fieldhouse was also being built at the same time. The theory goes that Spanos (Chargers owner) pledged $10M to the project but only actually gave $1M so funds were diverted away from the events center to keep the fieldhouse going...so the events center was never built. My recollection is the student fee for the event center couldn't be levied until half the funds needed were privately raised....then the economy tanked and we are where we are at now.

The rec center is where would would host the BSCT if we finish 1st.

And the WELL will be a beautiful venue. It's an amazing facility at Sac State and a huge source of pride as a state of the art on campus facility.
