Saddiq Moore & Jace Whiting

Saddiq more is in the transfer portal. Good for him. He wasn’t a very good shooter and with all the point guards coming in he won’t fit not being able to shoot. Jace Whiting is joining the team from UNLV. So far I’m not seeing the vision with who they are recruiting. This team will be really small with 4 or 5 guys under 6’3” and 2 or 3 under 6’0”. Undersized big in Gomma and a very thin 7 footer in Hansen. Hopefully they pull some more talent from the portal but I don’t like how Dames money is being used so far.

I really liked how Saadiq was progressing. Yes, he wasn't a good shooter, but the rest of his game was good. He will make somebody a good PG. If his shooting improves, he may make a great PG. I wish him the best.

Whiting is a very good shooter. He shot 50% from three at Boise State. Coming out of HS in Burley, he was one of the best in Idaho. Sounds like he had some sort of foot injury at UNLV and only played a couple of games. If I understand it right, he has 2 years left to play. He is more of a 2 guard than a PG. In HS he had several double, doubles, PTs & RBs. Out of HS he was listed at 6'2''. He is now listed at 6'3'', for what it's worth.

We definately do need a good big man. Our depth is thin in the post right now. Not only thin, but young.

He shot 50% on 30 attempts that’s less than 1 attempt a game. I’m not sure that qualifies someone to be a great shooter. He also has played PG at every one of his stops so I’m lost as to your evaluation that he is more of a 2 guard. Maybe that’s how Duft and crew want to play him but he is a PG that doesn’t turn the ball over and hustles hard. Tough kid. He won’t lack in effort at all.

Solid Transfer big man is a dire need though. Also with Nigel Burris getting pushed out of the program I’d say a couple long defensive wings that can shoot would be great also. Wing line is slim with 6 point guards.

I have no idea how any of our coaches view Whiting's skill set. My opinion is based on what I have seen in his play, both HS and at BSU. He has a scorers sort of game, can create his own shots, and seems to handle the ball well. I didn't see a lot of facilitation or play initiation going on. He may well have been forced into taking on the role of a facilitator, but it doesn't seem to be in his nature. He is more of a catch and shoot or create and shoot type guy. Some programs want that sort of player to be a bit taller to guard others in that position. That may be why he transferred from BSU to UNLV. At least that is my speculation. Some of us can remember when we finally stopped trying to make Kellen McKoy into a PG, moved him to the 2 spot for his senior year, and he became the league MVP. Some smallish players are just not natural PGs. It doesn't mean that they are not good players.

In a couple of months we will be seeing all of these guys in summer workouts. I'll have a better idea of what we have after I see them in person a few times. You can only get a limited amount from watching video. On video, Anthony Moore and Duce Paschal look like the real deal to me. Both are long, athletic, and can shoot the ball well. The big question is how any of these guys will step in and contribute.

I mean highlights and watching maybe one or two full games are different than being able to see all his possessions at once. I don’t believe he is a natural scorer at all, he hides off the ball or so he did at Boise state. I’d actually say if he didn’t bring the ball up and play scrappy it was as if he wasn’t on the floor most of the time. He isn’t a gifted defender. I guess we will see with the drop in competition. I expect he expands his game a little for that reason but I’m still not riding with your evaluation of him. All players think they should be scorers so they play that way even though it’s not their strengths. I can see how you would think he is by what he tries to do on the floor but that doesn’t mean he is one.

As for the newcomers, it’s too early to tell how they will fit. Duce Paschal is 6’2” and more likely 6’1”. He would be more of a point guard in stature. There are too many variables to consider once they get out here and our track record as of the last 15 or so years for guys coming in as elite players and leaving as shitty ones is 80%. These coaches lose faith in their players faster than a tent is pitched at a strip club 😂

AS of right now, Burris hasn't entered the transfer portal. At the end of March first of April, I saw the team practicing (guess they can until the season is officially over) and Burris was with them. But, that doesn't mean anything. Saadiq Moore was also there.

2025-2026 will be worse if Duft can't get another big. A guy who has already been developed. Bigs are a complete mystery to Duft (let's be honest, coaching tends to be mysterious to him). Coach has no clue how to use or develop bigs. Every big that has been coached by Duft has the exact same move. Curl across the paint, shoot a baby hook. That's it. Right now, I can only see 1 offer. Dude at Western Arizona JC: Edwin Suarez (6-6 220).

Duce is a 6'5'', 185 lb, combo guard. He has played 1, 2, and 3 on his HS and club teams. His little brother Bam is a 6'0'' PG, and is considered a high level, mid major prospect. Anthony Moore is a 6'5'', 180 lb, combo G/F who can play 2 to 4. Both are stat sheet stuffers who are highly skilled mid major guys. Both have high ceilings. I suspect that both will be rotation players as freshmen.

We will certainly be a smaller team than last year if we don't sign another center. Gomma will be playing a lot at center. Looks to me like it will be Gomma, Cutler, Tshilobo at the 5 spot if we don't sign another one. That would leave Burris and Hanson to hold down the 4 spot. We definately need another 4 or 5 man, but we don't need just anybody. If they aren't better than what we have, don't bring them in. At least that is IMHO.

Duce Paschal is listed at 6’1” on 247sports and 6’2” on PrepHoops. His Twitter is the only place listing him at 6’5”. Who is honest about their own height? Weber listed Dillon Jones at 6’6” and his draft height was 6’4” 😂

As for Burris, he was told his scholarship would be filled by someone else next season so if he stays it will not be for free. IE they are pushing him out. You also can’t have barely 6’0” tall coaches teaching bigs how to play. What experience do they have?

I don’t follow the recruiting as well as some. It doesn’t seem like the height disadvantage and rebounding issues are being addressed. I honestly don’t see a plan but just going after random guys who are ho-hum at best.

With Threatt gone, things could get even worse. I think you might see the worst combination football and basketball teams in over 40 years and the AD and University Administration could care less.

I can coach a team and have basement Big Sky finishes…I’ll do it for half the price too! I might even try to recruit to improve on weaknesses.

I know that you are not aware of this, but kids grow and web sites are not always on top of it.

Also, where did you hear this truthful information on Burris? I would think that Nigel would already be in the portal if that was true. I'm not saying that it isn't true, just wondering where you heard such a thing.

Very aware they grow but for two websites that updated their pages within the last month (I don’t expect someone as yourself to be able to check those timestamps), I’m going to ride on the bet that he is shorter than he claims. I’ll give him 6’3” at the least if it makes you feel better.

You know better than to ask that and I know better as to tell who and how many I heard the rumor from. I’m not sure I’ve been wrong on my predictions in the last 6 months if that gives you assurance. Actually I think the last prediction I was wrong on was Sigu staying when he decided to transfer 4 or 5 years ago. Must have been a close knit decision. If you want to get insider info Blaine you got to get out and meet more than just the head coach. Everyone is friendly if you get to know them. Most are naive such as yourself but you will hear truths you didn’t know before if you open your ears to more people. My loyalty is to the institution not the people trying to make it their own personal pedestal. Thats all I have to say about my sources on the Burris situation.

So, in this rumor you heard from some unknown third party, was it scholarship or NIL money that was being withheld?

You should show up and measure every player when they arrive in June. We could use someone as astute and level headed as you, to tell us all the truth.

Blaine (I am right about your name being Blaine?) don’t be trying to bait me into giving a hint as to my sources. I talk to multiple people before I go around spreading to your opinion “rumors”. There is no issue of money. He was told a player would be recruited to replace him. Curious what your answer would be if the same thing had happened to Saadiq Moore?

I believe Duce Paschal came on his visit with braids but has been playing without his braids as of recent. I was told by multiple people around him on his visit that he is not 6’5”. Now without braids he is 6’5”? I think you are smart enough for deductive reasoning. How tall were you when you had hair Blaine? 6’7”?? 😂

I have no knowlege of what may or may not have transpired with Saadiq. He very well could have been told that our signings of PGs was pushing him down or out. I certainly was not in on that conversation. You may be right about Burris, I don't know, but I don't think it is okay to be spreading rumors about anybody on third hand knowlege. You say things like they are fact, when you are simply repeating rumors. That is wrong on a lot of levels. It is not helpful to anybody, with the exception of your own ego.

I don’t like you avoiding the things I have been right about. My credibility is in the words I’ve spoken in the past. Look back at my words. The fact is they are not rumors. They are rumors to you because YOU don’t believe them because YOU aren’t close enough to the situation like YOU think you are. These are real situations and conversations that happen. They come from actual people involved on both sides. Is it wrong because people aren’t supposed to hear them because if the public or fans knew what was going on they would upset just like these players are every time they are involved in these situations? You should be ashamed of yourself for not standing up for what is right. Business or not you get handled the way you handle others

And just like Olds fashion, he ignores the hard truth comments and will continue to play the naive card for this program he claims to love. As long as these kids and this program are compromised with bad leaders you’ll hear my voice and the public will hear the truth that won’t get from anyone else 🤷🏻‍♂️
