Garrett Safron broke the single game passing record for the SECOND time this season during yesterday's 43-42 win at Portland State. He threw for 554 yards (rivaling the NFL mark set by Norm Van Brocklin with the Rams during the early '50s), and did a VERY good job of spreading the ball around.
Safron also set single-season records for attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns, in addition to the career TDs record (52). This is freaking AMAZING given the team's struggles this season, particularly that FBS skein to start the season. In addition to the usual characters, Safron ALSO made sure to utilize senior WR Austin Dotson, who set up the final drive with the previous touchdown and had a key reception during the game-winning drive as well, all after going the entire season without a catch.
Safron wasn't the only Hornet with record, either. WR Deandre Carter tied the Hornet single-season TD record for receivers (set by Mike Carter in 1969) with 14.
Safron and Carter have one more shot to extend these records next Saturday at Hornet Stadium as Sac hosts UC Davis in the 60th Causeway Classic.
