Sage Burmeister Verbals to ISU

Andrew Smith of San Diego Coastal Sports has a nice feature on Sage Burmeister, the La Jolla athletes who has committed to play both football and basketball at ISU...

The two-sport star had basketball offers from mid-major powerhouse Creighton and Eastern Washington. On the football side two-time defending FCS champions North Dakota State along with Coastal Carolina and Gardner Webb were also bidding for his talents.

But for Burmeister, there was one explicit difference the Bengals offered that landed right on the money in his eyes.

“They were the only ones willing to give me the opportunity to play both sports,” he exuberantly said of the chance to make two coaches happy. “I love them both…they give it to you straight and both are great guys.”

On the basketball court he’s the reigning San Diego Division IV player of the year, after leading the Torreys to the Div. IV title and this season is averaging 23.1 points per game on the hardwood.

“His game is just what we like to call silky smooth,” as one Creighton assistant coach so elegantly put it. “His range from downtown is impressive, but with the way he gets it off so quickly you just know he’s doomed to be successful at the next level.”
