We all know the deal. We owe these guys an ass whipping after what happened last season. I dont know much about these guys other than they got slam dunked the past two seasons in the championship game by NDSU. And, they apparently have cocky fans?

We'll most likely be the most difficult game remaining on their regular season schedule. I see them breezing through their Southland Conference schedule right into the playoffs, so beating them could go a long way into making sure they don't get a seed. Outside of maybe UCA (the school with the striped field), I don't really see anyone in their own conference challenging them. Southland is just kinda so-so.

I hate disagreeing with Ranger but I think the Southland is on the rise a bit. SELA had a two score lead against SDSU yesterday before losing a close one, McNeese boat raced South Florida a couple weeks ago, and even Nichols State has an FBS win against W. Michigan. I don't think it's equal to one of the big four conferences yet (although with how crappy the Southern looks they might be) but I think the Southland is following SHSU's improvement a bit.

I felt we'd start 2-2 but I agree that with the OSU win in the hip pocket, this is a great opportunity for us. I don't want to look ahead too much, but yes, this might be the difference between being seeded, hosting at least one home game, or even making the playoffs. If both teams are as good as we think, this will be one of the top FCS matchups of the season...certainly more significant than Montana-ASU. :coffee:

I guarantee we can move the ball against SHSU and probably score a lot of points. But our defense still looks like we can't stop a team committed to running the football. This will be a very difficult game for us, but it is extremely important because if we fall to 2-2, it's hard to imagine anyone going through Big Sky play with only one loss.

I watched the Sam Houston playoff game tonight for the first time since the game. It was interesting to see how much we limited their option attack in that second half. Tough assignment defense, LB's in the box. More blitzing than usual.

It was also interesting to watch how our receivers started beating them one on one and how out of sorts they looked when they were forced to switch to zone. I'd imagine they will start off with man defense on our receivers to start off with, especially after watching the Toledo film and seeing how effectively they used it against us.

Not sure about the ‘cocky fans’ part but every base has their fair share of idiots. Everyone that I’ve spoken with is expecting a great game from EWU next week- while it’s hard not to look ahead, I see this as THE premier FCS matchup in the 1st half of the season. Given the excitement of the previous 2 playoff games in Cheney, I’d expect nothing less on 9/28.

Couple things about us:

- Kats are 26-6 since the start of the 2011 season (26-1 to teams NOT named Texas A&M, Baylor or NDSU)
- Currently riding the nation’s longest FCS home game winning streak (16)
- Basically return all offensive skill positions, replace entire OL but 2 (Key players: RB Flanders, WR/RB Sincere, QB Bell)
- Lost a ton of key secondary players but return front 6 in our 4-2-5 scheme (Key players: DE Weaver, LB Brock, CB Sneed)
- We’ll end up having THREE opponents similar to your Western Oregon game, which we’re not happy about but it is what it is. We’ll see after this weekend but so far, Kats have outscored HBU & Texas Southern 129-17.
- Kats also lost to #6 Texas A&M in front of 87,000 @ Kyle Field. Flanders broke off a 70 yd run (ended with 170 & 3 scores) in the 3rd qtr to make it 30-21 but then A&M became the same A&M that took Bama to the final seconds. Final was 65-28

All things point to a shoot-out at Bowers Stadium. Hard to ignore Sam's recent success against the Big Sky (2-0 Montana State, 1-0 Montana, 1-0 Cal Poly, 1-0 EWU). Hope some of the EWU faithful can make the trip down to Texas. We had fun with a few EWU transplants in Houston last year at one of the watch parties. Hint: bring something COLD to drink :thumb:

Hey Sam-Kat;
My wife and I are heading your way for the game so need some tickets. Which side is the home sideline?
Thanks,

No major statistical insight to my prediction, but I feel confident that this will be a win for EWU. I think we are better then last year, SHSU is probably a little younger then last year, and we have a bye week to prepare.

It will be a good game, but I wouldn't be surprised if we win by 10.

I won't be surprised if there are a total of over 100 points scored. I don't think they can stop our offense but history has shown that our defense is susceptible to their offensive scheme.It could very well come down to which team has the ball last.

Clawman - didn't know there were conservatives in WA...you're already my kind of guy. :D
There is an allotment carved out for visitors on the East Side, closest to Field House. Link below.

Be sure to look across the Intramural Fields from the press box/stadium & find the Katfans.com tailgate (big BBQ pit rig with hot tub on top & balcony...we usually have several SH flags waving & some good tunes blaring) & enjoy a cold beverage with us. Really looking fwd to this match up...shame it's not a 6pm kick but when TV calls, you must answer.

Also, be sure to grab breakfast (or any meal) at Cafe Texan on the square, downtown. :thumb:

Sam;
Thanks for the feedback, I'll wander through. If you see a guy in Eagle gear with a beautiful blond, give a shout, it is probably me and my wife.

You mentioned replacing a lot from your secondary. How has that unit held up so far this season?

I'm not sure if anyone can make an honest assessment on SHSU. They moved the ball fairly well on A & M, but that defense is not great by BCS standards. Manziel shredded their secondary but I don't think that's a good metric for any FCS team. Their other games have been against inferior competition, so I think we're going to be their first real test against a team on the same level.
