From the SL Tribune... a quote from Randy Rahe. "We were right there and had a chance against a really good team. I was proud of our effort and toughness"

Wow, so creative! I can't count the # of times I have seen this quote from Rahe. Randy, stop the coach speak and get real. Any Coach worth his salt wouldn't choose to use the word "proud" in conjunction with how Weber played against an opponent with far less talent. Mediocrity prevails...

"A really good team"! Are you kidding me? The difference in talent level was visible to even a novice like me. And then four of them fouled out and they went with the JV and still took it to us. Ug, Ugh, Ugly!!!

Mr. AD Bovee... please don't accept this. Rahe got his ass kicked by a coach with no former head coaching experience. How could anyone argue that Rahe is a good coach. A fine human being, yes. An adequate recruiter yes. But a dud as a coach! I calls it likes I sees it...

What classifies a team as "really good?" Rahe has said "veteran" plenty. And wsugrad has debunked that excuse of Rahe's. When Rahe losses, he tells himself it is okay, "because we lost to a veteran and good team." My many problems are focused around this; after 10 years, there hasn't been and substantial improvements. The ceiling has been met, and winning "league" is the standard. League opponents are terrible, let's be real. Is the university contempt with only winning the bigger sky? When does the bar get raised, where winning in the NCAA tourney is the bar? I'm still frustrated by Rahe, his excuses, poor coaching, poor in game strategies, poor instate record, lack of knowledge of how to beat the zone and press...

Speaking of raising the bar, that reminds me of Kevin Harlan calling the Weber State vs. North Carolina game in 1999. Harold Arceneaux was going off, and after Arceneaux made a shot, Harlan yelled, "And the bar for heroism has just been raised! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBUFtYYB5PE&feature=youtu.be&t=272" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

That bar has fallen quite a bit since then, and the bar you mention (winning the Big Sky and playing in the NCAA tournament) isn't even reached on a consistent basis. Weber State should manhandle the Big Sky Conference, and they don't even really do that much.

Watching that video made me long for those days when Weber State was well coached. Weber State players were full of confidence with Ron Abegglen as their coach. They wouldn't have beat Michigan State and North Carolina otherwise. And in Big Sky games, you knew Abegglen coached teams were going to wreck the opponent, especially at home. I remember when I was little going to a Weber State vs. Northern Arizona game. I so badly wanted Weber State to score 100, and they did. Weber would absolutely punish teams they were expected to beat.

That's not to say Weber State players are bad. They are very talented. Hell, Damian Lillard is in the NBA, and we know all too well the lack of postseason success he had with Weber. The players just need a better leader.
