SATOG (Super Annoying Time Out Guy)

SATOG really bothered me last night by totally butchering the name of one of our greatest coaches, Ron Abegglen. Plus I sit near a major sponsor that generally isn't happy with how he handles their promotion. I think we could make more of an impact by spending his salary on a marketing person to work with the student organizations to get students to the games. I don't think SATOG gets the crowd going, he doesn't make me want to visit the companies that are sponsoring the promotions. Let's do something that is value added.

Right on!...and he is too loud, it's like he's screeching right into your ear...oh, for the good ole' days with Coach A (and remember it's a long A pronounce.) :)

The concept is OK. The problem is in the application and timing. I don't think they should hire anyone to do it. I think they should have student interns do three game sets. They could get students from Communications and Technical Sales and give them internship credits toward graduation.

Just a thought. :coffee:

:agree: Weber has to have the lamest time-out "entertainment" ever. Not only is SATOG super annoying, most of the promotions/activities/whatever are just stupid. Getting the student organizations involved seems like a win-win for anyone involved and would have to be better than what's happening now. I kinda enjoyed the promotions/activities/whatever before SATOG, now I can't hardly stand them.

This is just one in a long list of disappointments with WSU marketing over the years. My neighbor, an Aggie grad, is the head of the Utah Beef Council and an exec of the Utah Cattleman's Association. Years ago, he made attempts to partner with WSU in promotional agreements and found it difficult to deal with them compared to what he was used to with other business. Anyway, he finally sparked their interest somehow and worked with them for a few seasons but it just didn't work out long-term because of how awkward is was working with them, at least according to him.

I went to the USU game last year ISU game when dame was here uvu game this year and byu game this yr and all the promotions were just as bad as ours. And byu announcer girl was defiantly worse than our SATOG. At least we got rid of the stupid Farrs box, terrible.

I agree with turning it over to the students (with proper supervision) it's important that the students get more involved in game day preparations. The next 4 years are going to exciting with our on court talent. Getting the students to participate should bring the right atmosphere to the Dee!

Five seasons and he is still going strong. I still like the idea of handing it over to a student or two. At least we could tell the students to not look so sloppy and not to inhale the microphone.

My biggest beef with SATOG, is that he is a slob, and has zero new comments/ways to announce things. His repertoire is weak, and needs to be revamped.

Hawks,

Do you have any pull within the department to help the in-game presentation go in a different direction? In a perfect world you could get a male and female communication student to alternate timeouts. It would still be annoying and the students would have to learn what is effective. But that is why they are in College. The students actually care about Weber State. I don't think Jake had ever heard of Weber before he started his gig as the "hype" guy. The students could help in getting their friends to attend the games. I personally do not think Jake adds any value to the game. I wonder if he is somehow a part of the KJAZZ deal?

I can't say with certainty, but I'm fairly sure SATOG is under some kind of sports promotion, long-term contract. He actually owns the company.
