Saturday's scrimmage

No post about the scrimmage yesterday. So I will give my two cents worth. I liked it especially because it will be the only time I will see my eagles until the come opener this years. I know it’s sad but true. I have been worried about the CB all winter and spring and after seeing this first fall ball I don’t know why. We have at least 4 capable players and one or two could be outstanding with some more game experience. Burgett’s learning experience at Safety looks to be just as fast as Minnerly’s was last year. I like that we are deep with quality all over the Defense. I am disappointed I wanted to see more of the Freshman Cody McCarthy but he nicked his knee. I saw lots of freshman beef playing on the lines late in the scrimmage and was impressed. More of the big weight they were carrying was muscle that I expected. Most if not all will probably red shirt. If you read the back pages of the Thatnewspaper today, yes the freshman running backs are as real as the YouTube videos. But we have a good crew of backs already. I hope they red shirt but it sounds like they might make it on special teams?
Kicking game looks to be ok with several choices from the transfer from blue turf and freshman from O.
I feel like Charley Brown, Thatnewspaper each year rips the football away from me each year, the Eagle team excels and the gets no respect. Thatnewspaper, I will not use their name again, puts a Guesser puff piece on the front page and we get coverage 18 paaaaaaaaaaaaages deep. The UofW got more articles this week. So sad, so very sad.
Yes, I added the Thatnewspaper to my spell check.
Vic, was in attendance and reported to me to be on the mend. I hope he will give you more detailed information because he knows the players.

Thanks for the updates. Interesting to hear that one or both of the True Freshman running backs might have a shot to play this year. We are going to be very deep in the backfield, so it will be interesting to see who emerges as the number one. Right now I think you gotta go with Mario due to his experience from last season, but I have been saying since TJ declared for the draft that this year is going to be running back by committee. I think the three B's (Brown, Beumonte, Bronson) will share the bulk of the carries, but then we also have Cody Hecker, Daniel Johnson, and the two Freshman Talley and Forte who could contribute. In reality, with all that depth there, I think it'd be unwise to not RS at least one of them unless there were a really compelling reason. But if the running game is an area of concern, and the coaches think one of them has a really chance to not only contribute, but possibly start, then by all means. True Freshman have been impact players in the Big Sky in the past. I'm also wondering if the fact that Pulu won't play until 2012 might play some part in David Delgado possibly playing this year.

What happened to McCarthy? Nothing serious I hope.

Cody has a hyper-extended knee and they dont know what the extent of the injury is right now. Talley, Forte, and Mccarthy were all expected to play this fall but because of the injury they will wait to see whether or not they will redshirt him.

I saw Cody run across part of the field, to avoid a scrimage play, after the pt crew looked at his knee. So he can put weight on the knee. I hope that is a good sign.

That is good news. Has Kaufman not had a lot of reps in camp? I've noticed there's been virtually zero mention of him in any of the reports coming out of camp. I know he's been recovering from injury all summer but is he in game shape? We will need that big target against UW.

Turnout for the first scrimmage was better than expected, by me anyway. Nice to see the support, hope it carries through the season. Guess others are looking forward to the season as much as I am.
The offense seemed to move the ball pretty well early on , but the defense put up some tough stands later in the scrimmage. Herd missed a couple of passes he should have caught near the end of the scrimmage. Overall it seemed scrimmage went very smooth. When Baldwin called for a specific situation it came together quickly. Players knew where they should be. Didn't notice any plays that too many or too few guys on the field. Very smooth, much more so than spring scrimmage IMHO.
Why were Renard nor Matt Johnson in pads? And Mario got hardly any touches.
Don't know the numbers that well, and not at all for the new kids.
I'm anxiously awaiting a "Vic Report". (That should be a sticky when the new forum is rolled out).
Go Eags!!
