Weber is currently looking for a wing to replace the departed Marcus Carson (I think he will be playing at a DII next season). Most likely, the recruit will come from the JC ranks. Close to home, the Scenic West Conference has some exceptional wings:
Stephen Franklin (Aurora Co): Originally Stephen signed with Colorado as a Jr in high school, but upon the coaching change that occurred rescinded his decision. He then signed with Colorado State as a Sr, then the same things occurred, there was a sudden coaching change and he left the program. He signed with the College of Eastern Utah out of high school, and has been one of their team leaders for the past two seasons. In high school he averaged, 4 steals a game on top of 18pts, 7rebound, 3 assists, and one block. Many in Colorado said that he was the best player in the state his senior season. I don't know much about his grades or his work ethic, but basketall talent wise he is by far the best wing, still available, coming out of the Scenic West. Franklin also wants to be a two sport athlete and play football as well...at a DI program that could be really tough. However, it would be far more likely to happen at an FCS school rather than an FBS school. He could play on two championship calibre programs at Weber State. According to Scouts.com he is a three star prospect and ESPN touted him as being low 90's (88-91)
coming out of high school.
DJ Wright (Toronot Canada): DJ is a freshman with SLCC. He was touted as being one of the top 100 Canadian basketball players his senior year of high school. DJ is 6-7, 225lbs and can shoot from all areas on the floor. He can slash, penetrate, and shoot the long ball. He is an excellent rebounder, but also, is a natural scores. He has nice hands and sees the court nicely. Since he is a FR it would be difficult to snag him, and chances are, with another year at the JC ranks, he'll be getting noticed by top DI programs. The time to go after Wright is now... Currently, DJ is a two star prospect, but his stock is on the rise, and would be considered in the low to mid 80's.
Cameron Evans (Clearfield Utah): Cameron should have been signed by a DI school coming out of high school. Unfortunatley, he played on the same team as Nic Thompson, who got all the attention (Thompson is 3 inches taller). Evan is undersized for his positions but can score and is a monster rebounder. He is only a freshman, but with time and a good coach will become a prolific player. He is a good student, and a hard working kid. He is only a freshmen, but still has a red-shirt. He isn't a wing, but because he did far better that thompson their senior year and is proving to be better at the JC ranks also, I thought it would be good to include him. ESPN had him as a 40 (no info on him)
Ryan Brimley (Hillcrest HS, SLC): Brimley is primarily known for his three-point shooting and his court awarness. He isn't the greatest rebounder or defender, but he can shoot lights out when he gets on fire. Earlier in the season, he had a 33 pt game for the Snow College Badgers. Brimley is currently being recruited by the Cats, but is also being looked at by Utah Valley and Souther Utah. In all likelyhood I can see the Cats looking past Brimley. ESPN had him as a 40.
