Schedule finalized... and it sucks (again)....

No home games until week #5... roadies at Idaho and Wazzu to open the season.

Idaho and Weber are both essentially "must-wins" on the road.

What the hell do we gotta do to get an advantageous schedule from Chaves ???

Yep...we all saw this coming...not happy with this schedule, you can't play your first home game until week 5, same crap as last year, just one more home game this year. It doesn't feel like the admin is trying to capitalize off of our National Champ in 2010 or great attendance last year. We definitely haven't done any favors for our team...our first 4 games next year are going to be REALLY difficult and we also play MSU and SUU on the road next year later in the year.

To set ourselves up for decent playoff positioning, we most likely will have to beat Weber on the road to open the conference and either Wazzu or Idaho...damn.

Here is the article on GoEags.com

Tough conference draw for us this year because we lose ISU and UNC and gain Cal Davis and North Dakota and all 4 of our conference road games will be against really good teams next year. We will need to win all 5 at home next year and find a way to win 2 or 3 on the road to make the playoffs.

Cal Poly just announced their 2012 schedule.

Sept. 1 San Diego
Sept. 15 @ Wyoming
Sept. 22 UC Davis
Sept. 29 @ North Dakota
Oct. 6 @ Weber State
Oct. 13 Northern Colorado
Oct. 20 Portland State
Oct. 27 @ Sacramento State
Nov. 3 @ Eastern Washington (non-conference)
Nov. 10 Idaho State
Nov. 17 @ Northern Arizona

Sure we start off tough with two FBS road games but they are closer than some people commute. One is VERY winnable and the other will be close, depending on our QB situation.
After that we get the toughest teams at home and will finish on a winning streak going into the playoffs.
Since Portland State is now considered our "rival" will we always get them the last conference game of the year?

I love the thinking...but Idaho will be tougher than everyone thinks because we are breaking in a brand new QB and they may be a bad FBS team, but they still are an FBS team. Also, the toughest conference teams we face, besides Montana and possibly Cal Poly (I don't know enough about them), will be on the road. MSU will be a top 10 team (and Mcghee has had our number the last 2 years), Southern Utah will be returning a Payton nominee at QB, and Weber returns a ton. The 4 teams we play on the road in conference may very well all be ranked in the top 25.

Our first 4 games are a nightmare next year, just like this year.

Clawman, I sure hope you are right, and I do love the optimism.

The good thing is for most of us that live in the area, we can make the Idaho and WSU games at least...

Wanna Trade??? Not sure how Cal Poly will be next year, but that looks like a really favorable schedule (besides EWU of course).

So Montana at home and Weeeeber State are not "winnable" games? Shit, I could have sworn we beat WSU the past two seasons, and Montana in 2010.....and as poorly as we played in Missoula this year, we still had a shot to win at the end - they beat us by 4 points. Now, if we don't have competent QB play by game 3, then I could see us going 0-4 in that stretch, but come on. 2/4 are very winnable, with an outside shot of pulling an upset on the Vandulls. The last time we went into the Kibbie Dome a young inexperienced Qb came in the game in the second half to lead the Eags to victory. That guy was the one and only Erik Meyer. Have some faith dude!

The problem with this schedule is that it forces fans to look at the half-full cup or "have faith." What it doesn't do is give us a good chance of success. The schedule should work for us, not always against us. The fact is we could very well be 0-3 or 1-2 with no momentum going into our first home game inthe FIFTH week of the season. Sure, we might be better, but what if we struggle to open the season again? There is no contingency by putting the team in Cheney and letting them play an easy opponent to work out those kinks. That is just plain piss poor planning for the second year in a row.

Agreed, it sucks to not have a home game early on, but we do have a bye early on to work out the kinks before we go on a roll down the stretch like we almost always do. Also don't forget that both WSUs will be breaking in new coaches and schemes, and we get them early on. And of course Idaho is winnable. Not like we're playing West Virginia and a good OSU team. Excited to play some teams we don't get to play too often that are now in conference (UCD, SUU, CP, UND). We lose ISU, but UND is much the same. I'd rather face UND than ISU under year two of Kramer. :twocents:

I like the fact I will be watching at least 8 games in person and possibly a 9th if I can swing the Bozeman trip. But yes, it's not a favorable start.

You headed to Portland?

I hope to. Got family in the area.

EWU schedule has GREAT MATCHUPS. Matchups that we've all probably wanted to see.
EWU vs WSU
EWU vs Idaho
EWU vs North Dakota

But its when and where these games are played thats the issue. EWU shouldve got Idaho as a home game.

@Idaho then @WSU sux, but after choosing thoses no conf games, what choice does the AD have?

The AD built the schedule. He didn't have to sign contracts to play roadies with Idaho and WSU to open the season, but he chose to. Chaves is a good guy, but he can't schedule for shit.
