Changes in the triple-option attack have resulted in more big plays this season and allowed Poly to rally in five of its seven wins

Watch the sideline closely during Cal Poly football games, and you might notice something relatively new about Tim Walsh.

He isn’t wearing a headset and hasn’t been since late last season.

There are times when the fourth-year Mustangs head coach will don the communication device so he can talk to assistant coaches up in the press box, usually during timeouts or other breaks in play.

But as a testament to his confidence in the play-calling of co-offensive coordinator Bryan Cook, who came to San Luis Obispo with Walsh from Army in 2009, Walsh is staying out of the way.

I'm not gonna read a thing on Cal Poly until next week. SUU makes me nervous and it should the players, too. Gotta get that win first before they start sniffing around CPSLO...

So in order for us to get the autobid, we need Sac to pull out the win against CP. Then we need to beat CP next week, and then SUU or CP needs to beat NAU. The problem is, I don't see how we're going to beat CP without both Pulu and Cook. Both will be huge in stopping CP's option attack. Mustangs are straight abusing Sac up the middle every other play. We need Zach back as well. Not liking this at all. We really screwed the pooch today. :ohno:

I wish we both would be coming off wins, but now both team will be hungry and p!ssed. Should be a great game next week.

Thank goodness they lost. Now we just need to win out and hope NAU loses. Looks like they had their hands full with UNC today. This conf sched is complete BS.

I see the SUU game as a very necessary loss. I wasn't seeing improvement from our team, because our team had nothing to improve for. Undefeated in conference play and ranked first in the nation caused players to settle. It won't be the case now.

We needed the loss to have any chance against Cal Poly. They are scary this year. I'm afraid I don't have confidence in our ability to win this one. That running triple option is stacked perfectly against our gameplay.

Zack Johnson is listed as probable for Cal Poly. Having Johnson and Hamlin for this game is absolutely crucial. The reason Sac State won was because their linebackers were FLYING and laying some great hits the whole game.

We are also going to have to win the turnover battle. The last two games, we have lost on turnovers and that has to change. Cal Poly is second in the Big Sky in turnover margin.

I wasn't very impressed with Cal Poly's pass defense. I expect our quarterbacks and receivers to come out ready this game. This is will be our biggest advantage.

I would be surprised if Pulu wasn't back next weekend. Also, Cook's didn't look horrible, he jogged off the field. Probably bad enough to where he couldn't come back into the game, but I would also be surprised if he didn't play against Poly.

We need Pulu, Cook, Johnson, and McCarthy back for Poly. When we are healthy, we are a pretty good defensive unit.

You could really tell how the lack of a pass rush yesterday hurt our secondary. I knew if Sorenson had time he would hurt us, and that's what happened.
