Scrimmages 2014/2015

Has anybody been in the gym to watch the guys play lately. I have been to busy so I have not tried. I have heard that the guys are playing well and challenging each other hard. The word is that James is being very aggressive and playing with a lot energy, Jeremy has added to his game (so BSC beware), and Kyndahl has taken his game to another level. The coaches seem to be really happy with that so I can't wait to see that part because he could be the X-factor since most teams are going to prepare for the Def. Player of the year, Freshmen of the Year, and Richaud.

I here they are scimmaging today. I hope it is open I would love to get a preview before the purple & white this week. Anybody know.

Wow!

I have never seen them close a practice or scrimmage. Did somebody tell you that it was closed? Or, were the doors just locked?

Maybe they just heard that you were coming.

Both........

Practice/scrimmage was closed today.
I told them I was a friend of old's and they called security!

If it was closed wonder if they had a visitor in town to help with the scrimmage? If so that means outside public can't watch.

I usually call security and tell them someone is trying to get in from the south side, and then sneak in through the north side.

Having a visitor is a possibility, but quite remote. It's more likely to be some sort of team building endeavor where no distractions would be allowed. I have never seen them close a practice for a visitor. It may not have been a practice, with coaches, at all. It may have been a players only situation, called by the team captains. My feelings are that a visitor is the least likely thing. :twocents:

Olds the visitor I was talking about is another D1 school coming in town to scrimmage and since NCAA rules say that D1 teams can't play in front of spectators with out them being charged for watching the game. Like we would have Boise St come to us or us going to them. That is the visitor I was talking about but from what I heard they just closed it.

Interesting that coach would close practice. That's going to make the Purple/White game even more exciting.
I think we are in for a lot of different line ups as Coach Rahe looks to figure out rotations. 3 days until we get answers to some of our questions.
I got a paper due Thursday........ Going to have to finish it on Tuesday. :protesst:

I thought that everyone knew that it couldn't have been a closed scrimmage with another team. You are only allowed 2 exhibition games and one of those two can be a closed scrimmage. We have 2 exhibition games on our schedule already. There will not be a closed scrimmage this year.

If coach closed the scrimmage/practice, it would be the first time that has happened in his tenure. I'd bet $5 that it was a player instigated thing. :twocents:

If another team visited the Dee for a scrimmage, which the NCAA does allow, then yes, the scrimmage has to be closed. However, I thought that that can only occur if a team only plays 1 Exhibition game. Did the NCAA change the rule? Weber, as we all know, is playing 2 Exhibition games and under the established rules, I thought that closed scrimmages between NCAA teams was not allowed. I could be wrong. Compliance??

The doors at the Dee are closed, and as long as you don't take pictures, try to film practice, and sit still coach usually doesn't mind if you watch. Of course, i'm sure he would rather not have a lot of people watching what is happening. He would rather focus on the team.

Tal that is what Olds was saying as well about the exhibition games. I had asked if maybe that was the reason the doors where locked but after talking to some of the staff they said they did not scrimmage anyone else is what I said yesterday.

I'm still thinking that it was a player initiated thing. I have no idea what the reasoning might have been, but it is not the norm for this crew. :shocking:

Ahhhh...gotcha. :thumb:

Ran into some of the team this morning. There was not another team in nor was it player initiated. The coaches didn't want the intrasquad scrimmage publicized. It was 100% a coach decision.

Nothing sinister.... Just a intrsquad scrimmage where they tried some different line ups. I'm not an expert, but sounds like Wednesday might be fun! Don't take my comments as being gospel..... Seems to be a little gamesmanship in keeping the team underwraps this season.

Thanks, youngguns.

This is a new wrinkle in Rahe's modes operandi. It kind of creates a little intrigue, don't you think? :coffee:

It could even have something to do with the opening game at USU.

Going to ruin my street cred with the fellas, but I agree with Olds that Rahe is being a little cagey. It makes sense to not let your competitors know your plan of attack! All I'm hearing is that rebounding won't be a problem! :blah:
