SE Missouri St/Stony Brook

Weber gets the winner. Stony Brook (7-4), from Stony Brook, NY, will travel to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to take on Southeast Missouri St (8-3). Stony Brook is one of six CAA teams in the tournament after finishing tied for 3rd with a 5-3 conference record. SE Missouri St is one of two teams from the Ohio Valley Conference in the tournament after finishing 2nd with a 6-2 conference record. Game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Hopefully they play 10 overtimes and the winner has a lot of delays in travel out here. Seriously, it will be fun to see a team you don’t get to see play here.

Fill the stands!

Interesting matchup. I think Stony will be favored but they’ve struggled on the road with a 2-4 record including a loss to a bad Albany team Saturday.

Looks like Stony plays tough defense and runs the ball well, but they have a middling passing game and below average special teams. Having a one-dimensional offense and weak special teams is not a good combo if you’re going to come to Ogden and try to steal a game.

I haven’t looked at SEMO much yet but they have a high scoring offense, they allow over 30 points per game, and have the best turnover differential in FCS.

While I don’t think either team would be a pushover, I do think Weber got a good draw.

Its a pretty awesome first round with some interesting games. Delaware vs James Madison, Lamar vs Northern Iowa, Stony Brook vs SE Missouri, Elon vs Wofford and of course Montana State vs Incarnate Word are the ones im interested in the most.

Im looking forward to Saturday

What is the school's plan to get the word out to the student body? I remember receiving an email or two leading up to the CIT championship game. Can anyone get some posters or signs put out around campus? Put playoff game and ESPN3 on the posters, and the kids will get out. This needs to be a month long thing. I would like to see some WSU representatives making appearances on local news, radio, and other outlets promoting this thing. We have 12 days to not screw things up.

Dont know how true it is, but I did a quick count on how many seats were still available for the game next weekend. After adding up all the sections the final came to 7,455 seats remaining. Which would mean that there is already 10,045 tickets sold. The whole West stands only have 2,315 seats available. Now these numbers are probably wrong as Im sure it's putting into account Wildcat Club members and Season ticket holders, but it's a good sign. A lot of tickets have already been sold regardless.

Check those numbers again tonight at roughly 6pm, when they release the seats of unclaimed season ticket holders.

I wouldn't expect the visiting team to contribute much to the attendance when they visit Ogden. SE MO St averaged 4262 at home this season, which was 8th out of 9 teams in their conference. Stony Brook averaged 7814 at home this season, which was 7th out of 12 teams in their conference. And it's a very long trip from Long Island. I'm actually really surprised that Stony Brook isn't hosting this one. I would have thought they would have been able to outbid SE MO St, plus they're arguably the better team and the committee loves them some CAA.

Weber's ticket system really jacked up season ticket holders being able to claim their seats. Eventually I had to go to the ticket office to claim mine even though I could purchase non-claimed seats online. I would suspect we will get the same or better attendance as last year's playoff game against WIU. So about 12000 butts in seats and 6876 reported attendance.... :stir:

There is no plan. The only thing goggles does is social media, wraps and bouncy houses. Because of this post, we might see some "Free Football" signs on campus (you know, the signs that don't tell you about the event; time or date, but that you can take four friends with you. I don't know why you would want to take four friends for a free football). Yet, he isn't in charge of getting student leaders to do something, anything. He can help motivate, but ultimately it is up to them..

I was involved in student government in 2003 when the Cats hosted the Big Sky Basketball Tournament (I MISS THAT SOOOO MUCH; has made basketball almost meh for me, since the regular season means absolutely nothing). The week before the tournament we got a DJ, donuts, and sold shirts ($5 MAX) on campus from 7:30-1 everyday (out by the bell tower; you need to be outside, not in the Union, but also, you need someone there too). Everyone in WSUSA, Student Activities, and a lot of the Greeks got involved. We ended up getting the entire student section sold out and there was a crowd of over 11K at that game. First thing first, we got messages about the tournament in every classroom on campus and a lot of the faculty awarded extra credit for attending. We put flyers on cars (agreed to clean up the parking lots at the end of each day), had student leaders on the shuttle buses with some team members getting the word out, put a huge sign up on the bell tower (yeah, that got taken down, but was awesome), sent out emails to every student, had huge signs and food at the Davis Campus, and knocked on doors at the residence halls and put flyers in the residents mail boxes. Hell, I remember being out on Harrison Blvd. with signs about the game (it didn't happen that time, but for a football game against Montana there was a banner across Harrison with information on the game and signs all over Ogden and on campus). We went to area businesses to have them put up information on their marquees, bulletin boards, and on their doors. We truly painted the town purple. Athletic Marketing helped us with funding and getting some athletes out to help, but mostly, it was driven by student leaders. We did challenge clubs and orgs to get their members to the game and LDSSA/Newman Center/Christian Fellowship support was amazing (these groups are KEY to a successful student section). Best part was Coach Cravens came to the bell tower once and helped for an hour or so one day. It was magical.

With football...there is sooo much more potential. More seats, bigger student body, and a lot more redshirts available to help get the word out. These are the guys who should be spreading the good word. Every athlete should be in class with shirts about the info. There is sooo much that could be done that isn't. It really is sad. There are a lot more officers, ambassadors, SAA, SAAC members than there were 15 years ago, but indolence rains supreme.

Can someone explain Stewart Stadium’s capacity to me?

A quick look shows 14 sections, most of which have 30 rows with 30 seats (some sections have less). 14 sections times 900 seats per section means there are roughly 12,600 seats. The stated capacity is 17,312. That leaves nearly 5,000 seats unaccounted for. Not sure how much the press box can fit, but certainly not that much.

I have no idea where the number comes from. Perhaps General Admission sections are believed to hold more than 30 seats per row? Currently available seats on the general admission side show well over 1000 available per section (1116, 1059, 1043, 965, etc.). Maybe just fire code capacity?

There are 40 rows in each section except for the three or four rows that were displaced in front of the Sky Suites.

Thanks... You are correct. My phone was only showing 30 rows, but I looked on my computer and saw there is indeed 40.

15 sections x 40 rows x 30 seats = 18,000

Take out a few hundred for the sears removed for the tunnels and suites and that number makes sense.

I mean, who is over the ticketing and promotions at WSU? I see that he bball game vs BYU is already a near sellout..

The seating map for that game has many sections already sold out, and very limited seating. Whoever is over the ticketing and sales needs to be fired. It's freaking 2018 and that seating map for the DEC is so old and outdated. Did they not move the student section? Someone needs to get with the program, or get out. The on-line ticket sales are a joke, and this could be half our problems.

added them up again this morning, number is now down to 7,259 seats left. A difference of 196 tickets in 24 hours

Early forecast for next Saturday is freezing temps and snow. Hope that doesn't scare too many of the casual fans away, but it probably will.
