What is the school's plan to get the word out to the student body? I remember receiving an email or two leading up to the CIT championship game. Can anyone get some posters or signs put out around campus? Put playoff game and ESPN3 on the posters, and the kids will get out. This needs to be a month long thing. I would like to see some WSU representatives making appearances on local news, radio, and other outlets promoting this thing. We have 12 days to not screw things up.
There is no plan. The only thing goggles does is social media, wraps and bouncy houses. Because of this post, we might see some "Free Football" signs on campus (you know, the signs that don't tell you about the event; time or date, but that you can take four friends with you. I don't know why you would want to take four friends for a free football). Yet, he isn't in charge of getting student leaders to do something, anything. He can help motivate, but ultimately it is up to them..
I was involved in student government in 2003 when the Cats hosted the Big Sky Basketball Tournament (I MISS THAT SOOOO MUCH; has made basketball almost meh for me, since the regular season means absolutely nothing). The week before the tournament we got a DJ, donuts, and sold shirts ($5 MAX) on campus from 7:30-1 everyday (out by the bell tower; you need to be outside, not in the Union, but also, you need someone there too). Everyone in WSUSA, Student Activities, and a lot of the Greeks got involved. We ended up getting the entire student section sold out and there was a crowd of over 11K at that game. First thing first, we got messages about the tournament in every classroom on campus and a lot of the faculty awarded extra credit for attending. We put flyers on cars (agreed to clean up the parking lots at the end of each day), had student leaders on the shuttle buses with some team members getting the word out, put a huge sign up on the bell tower (yeah, that got taken down, but was awesome), sent out emails to every student, had huge signs and food at the Davis Campus, and knocked on doors at the residence halls and put flyers in the residents mail boxes. Hell, I remember being out on Harrison Blvd. with signs about the game (it didn't happen that time, but for a football game against Montana there was a banner across Harrison with information on the game and signs all over Ogden and on campus). We went to area businesses to have them put up information on their marquees, bulletin boards, and on their doors. We truly painted the town purple. Athletic Marketing helped us with funding and getting some athletes out to help, but mostly, it was driven by student leaders. We did challenge clubs and orgs to get their members to the game and LDSSA/Newman Center/Christian Fellowship support was amazing (these groups are KEY to a successful student section). Best part was Coach Cravens came to the bell tower once and helped for an hour or so one day. It was magical.
With football...there is sooo much more potential. More seats, bigger student body, and a lot more redshirts available to help get the word out. These are the guys who should be spreading the good word. Every athlete should be in class with shirts about the info. There is sooo much that could be done that isn't. It really is sad. There are a lot more officers, ambassadors, SAA, SAAC members than there were 15 years ago, but indolence rains supreme.
