It was probably the best option. He probably has the best experience.

Nothing against Hammer, I think he will get his chance in the near future and hope he isn't to bummed by the decision, but he isn't quite there yet. But, from where he started, he has come a long way, and with a healthy offense at 100%, I'm guessing we will see some good things next fall from him. Regardless, I felt it was down to either Hammer or Sears, and personally, due to experience, age, and how much the defense improved this spring, I think Sears is the best choice under the circumstances. I'm sure Hammer is the associate HC still.

He will be better than Hammer would have been, but not by much!

This seems like a good decision to me, assuming Mac didn't want to come back - and maybe even that wouldn't have been a good idea. Sears has only been here since this spring, so what info do you have on him that would make you think he is only a little bit better than Hammer?

I agree, given the cards on the table, this would be the best choice at this time. Gotta keep the ball rolling and keep working the team!

I don't know much about Sears, but I do know that one huge reason why he was so sought after was for his maturity, work ethic, and know how. He is a defensive specialist. My biggest concern is whether or not he can recruit. One area John L. was turning his back on was our backyard and mission prospects. Yes, you lose the recruit for two years, but at the same time, you are getting a guy who will have two more years of maturity and physical growth. Never a bad thing. I'm hoping that Sears takes advatage of the area unlike Smith. However, Smith is a great judge of talent, and because of his exploits automatically could get talented kids to come to Weber. His recruiting class was fairly impressive.

1st post! Sears is the man! Wildcat's, we have found our man.

Sears has been doing a great job so far. Did anyone else see how much our defense has improved since last fall? If that is any indication of our football team's potential, I'm pretty excited for the future under Sears.

The more I learn about coach Sears, the more I like him. Time will tell, but we may have come out of all of this turmoil smelling like a rose. I think that our staff and team will go into this season with a chip on their shoulder and that can only be good. :thumb:
