Seattle U Preview

Eastern takes on Seattle U tonight at 6. Important game for them coming off a bad loss.
Preview:
Seattle U has a 3-2 record. With wins against Uc Riverside, Cal State Fullerton, and a NAIA team. Losses against UW, and Boise St.
Seattle U Team Stats
POINTS PER GAME
78.0- 112th OVERALL
REBOUNDS PER GAME
41.8- 33rd OVERALL
ASSISTS PER GAME
14.2- 102nd OVERALL
FIELD GOAL PCT.
438- 205th OVERALL

Key Players:
PG- Isaiah Umipig 18.4ppg, 5.6asst. 5'11 point guard that has put up some impressive scoring numbers early. With him being much shorter than Drew Brandon, I think he will have some troubles shooting the ball this game. He already is shooting under 30% from 3, and under 40% from 2.
SG- Jarell Flora- 12ppg, 47% from 3. Has good size from a guard spot and can really shoot the three. Will be a good matchup between him and Tyler Harvey.
PF- Clarence Trent 10ppg, 6reb. Solid forward that is versitle. Will be a fun matchup agaisnt Venky Jois.

Prediction: EWU 78- SU 72. I think Eastern has better all around players and right now is a better team. Although i wouldnt be surprised to see Seattle U come out hot and force turnovers. Eastern has better post players, while i think Seattle U is pretty even at the guard spots. GO EAGLES!

A very nice win!
Indeed. We've been blown out by Seattle U in recent years past (although I don't think we got them in Cheney those years). Great game and great win against a great team. Way to go, Eags!

Just got home from the game tonight. Seems like things are clicking. 13-16 from the stripe?!! 47% from deep?!! This could be a fun year. :thumb: We have a shot at beating St. Mary's I think. Then we get UCI and their trees at Reese Court. I saw some quick glimpses of immaturity from a few players tonight but they reeled it in quickly. Great coaching by Hayford tonight. Get 'em Eags!!!

It seems like Eastern is fairing a lot better against these type of "middling" mid major teams this season than they have been in the past. I'm hesitant to get excited because the team has looked good early before and then had the wheels fall off by January. Still, the guys look a lot more athletic than they have in a while, and they have some guys who can be really counted on for buckets when they need points.

I know very little about basketball and can't claim to analyze b-ball talent, but my rough eyes see a good bit of improvement over the previous Hayford years.

I'll get excited for you. Last year we didn't win our 5th game until Jan. 10th!!

This is definitely a better team than last year. The team last year would have lost composure after Seattle U took the lead in the second half. This team did not fold and was 81% at the line tonight.

This is pretty much spot on for me as well.

I was flipping back some between this game and the Oregon game and it this was a good game. Hopefully these early season wins will translate to more success when it comes time to start Big Sky play. One concern that I am sure others have noticed is that we aren't getting a lot of points off of the bench. We have what seems to be a really talented core of players but I think Hayford needs to get more productivity from our bench players.

If you were AT the game last night did it seem more physical than a normal? Our friend Vic reminded the refs that it is not a rugby match but I don't think the refs listened to him. I agree with Vic, the refs were really "letting them play" if that is what you call it

clawman,
I am glad you agreed with me. When ever we are at Reese Court, how I expect the game to proceed, I normally look at the refs when they come out, and I figure how the game will be called. I have seen most of the Res that called our games. I can honestly say our MBB Team will be fun to watch this year. Let us hope our team stays healthy. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

p.s. Camas and Bellarmine Prep are presently on ROOTS TV, camas 42-14, 3:14 left to go. Another from Camas Player committed, Zach Eagle, RB/WR. Both Hennersey and Eagle are going to be very welcome at EWU, if they doesn't change their mines. We will by playing SDU next Saturday at 1 pm. It is supposed to be in the teens. BREAK OUT THE LONG JOHNS.

I believe Eagle has been offered by EWU, but not committed as yet? Hennessey, who has a verbal commit to the Eagles, may be in demand by the big boys if Camas wins state next week? Beau and the QB coach Zak Hill were shown on the sideline at the game, so I'm sure they are keeping close watch on the next possible Big Sky all conference QB after VA.

Did you mean to post this in the Bball forum? ;)

And hand warmers, and foot warmers, and maybe even a little spirits in my vest pocket
