I never noticed this before. Disturbing levels of hatred initiated by an OSU fan, echoed by a UO fan. This level of rivalistic hatred has rarely ever been directed before at PSU from the "Two Ugly Stepsisters." I applaud JG for bringing this shadow-hatred of theirs out into the light.

From 2009: Portland State at Oregon State Preview

"I really am putting up this post to say I hate Jerry Glanville. I really f--king hate Jerry Glanville. I hate his shtick. Quit it with the cowboy hats and dumb Civil War-era military hats. We get it, you don’t like the sun shining on the back of your neck.

The funny thing is, I don’t know where this stems from. I didn’t hate Jerry Glanville when he coached the Atlanta Falcons. I hate Hawaii (the college, not the state) so maybe that is it. More than likely though is my irrational hatred for Portland State. I have no reason to hate Portland State. They are mostly irrelevant in the world of college football. Maybe that is why I hate Jerry Glanville. He came to Portland and suddenly people pretended like their little school mattered. Most annoyingly, I felt like people pretended because they felt like they had to pretend. It was like the Oregonian editors thought, “Oh jeez, uuuuuuummmmmm…well, we are based out of the same city their school is in. I suppose people might criticize us for not giving them more attention even if nobody actually cares. F--k it, let’s pretend like they do care.” They could have at least hired a high school kid to cover the program for them. It’s not like anybody actually reads about them. Hell, maybe they DID hire a high school kid! I just blew my own mind.

So screw you, Jerry Glanville. J-sus, I REALLY hope Portland State doesn’t pull off an upset. It might make me look a little silly. Petty I am okay with but I really hope I don’t look silly.

Oh, and there is football to discuss:

I will not be wasting my time previewing this game because I really know nothing about PSU nor do I really care to. So here is a preview from Cliff Kirkpatrick. And Building The Dam does a very good job covering the Beavs."

bbryan (Duck fan) comment:

"There is something we can agree with, F--k Glanville. My hatred of him stems from the moment he took that job he started calling out Oregon and Oregon State for not wanting to play PSU. Know your place, PSU is a last minute fill-in game. He was just looking for a pay day from those two schools without actually building his program first. F--k him. I hope you guys beat them by 100."

Quizz and Quon (Beaver fan) comment:

"Common ground! I couldn’t have said it better."

What is the source of all this hatred? I think it may be fear associated with the very idea that Portland State could become as vital as either Oregon or Oregon State. Why not? Look what those supporting Boise State have accomplished. While I understand this primal dread and concern, I do not believe anybody has the right to prevent the state from maximizing its value index for higher education. So if PSU becomes as strong as OSU or UO, I say, tough---deal with it.

Again, we are not a small, irrelevant school. We are rather Oregon's largest unversity.

I strongly feel that Oregon and Oregon State would end up feeling a bit foolish amid a strong Portland State. Their nicknames represent mildlife while that of the urban university represents a horde of traditionally-strong fighters.
