shooting %

do balls fly different at high elevation? the Eagles shooting % the last two game has been horrible, well actually the last three games. 38% vs NAU an only 25% for threes. It is surprising we were even in the game with those numbers.

clawman,
Even with the loss today, it will come down to our team performing at their best at home next week. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: We have both Montana Teams, we need to defeat Montana, and hope SAC St loses, it is all in our court, we just need to be at our best this coming week, and I think we will be at our best.     Think that Reese Court will be jammed packed next week.     Women did bring it today, 6 victories in a row.     Vic Wallace

Sucks.... Who would have thought this team would have lost two of their next three after beating Sac State without Harvey? Everything looked like it was falling into place only to see the bottom fall out.

At least now the picture is clear, only running the table wins the conference. Sac State and Montana probably won't slip up (except in the head to head with the Griz) and if someone falters, NAU will be there to overtake the loser. Bummer to be in this position, but it is what it is...

You really see how dependent this team is on making threes. When those shots go down, the team is capable of beating just about anyone. When they don't, the team is capable of losing to just about anyone.

Yeah the good thing is, this isn't a mystery. We all know why EWU is stumbling as of late. Shooting % says it all. But can Hayford get that fixed? Harvey looks completely lost out there. My big gripe with Harvey is his horrid shot selection. He clearly is in a funk, but its not stopping him from launching 25 foot 3 pointers early in the shot clock. He has to be more selective on his shots. If your shot isn't falling, go ahead and pass it up boss. Get the ball inside to Blizzard or Jois. We can't have Harvey shooting prayers when he is as cold as Cheney in the winter.

Nothing fixes the Shooting % like a good ole dose of home cooking...

Pretty sure Eastern will come out guns blazing this weekend and be just fine.

marceagfan5,
I agree with you. It was a tough lost, but all we have to do this weekend defeat both Montana Teams, and get some help against Sac State. Nothing wrong with asking for some help from above ;) Reece Court will be rocking this weekend, especially Saturday. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

As for Harvey, not worried about him. He is one of the few shooters in the nation that can hit the 25 foot three pointers consistently early in the shot clock. I actually hope he keeps shooting those. Yes, he's been cold the last game or two, but that will change. All athletes go through cold spells. Look what he did the previous 20 or so games before that. Replay the Indiana game, it was one of his 28 foot three's that got us going at the end there. The kid has "in-the-gym" range" and every NBA scout knows it. Let's not a have a short term memory now.

One thing I will agree with is that we absolutely MUST get the ball inside to our Bigs. Venky and Blizzard might be two of the best players on the west coast that nobody knows about. I haven't seen anyone stop Blizzard this year when he's taken guys off the dribble to the whole. Nobody! And the kid is a true frosh. Venky and Blizzard NEED to be forcefed, especially when the 3's aren't dropping. That should open up the inside out game when defenses are forced to collapse on our Bigs.

Our shooters will heat up again. I would put our 3-point guns up against ANY, and yes I said ANY team in the nation.

I can't say why the shooting % has been so bad, but by my count we had maybe 4 or 5 "bad" shots per game last week which is fixable, and not really an explanation for the overall bad shooting.

Coach Hayford indicated the same thing to me in our interview yesterday (it should be posted on my blog shortly for those interested). Coach also indicated they have been focusing almost exclusively on defense the past several weeks and that it may have negatively impacted their offensive efficiency.

The best news is that EWU still has a very good chance at hosting the Big Sky Tourney, we win any possible tie with Montana if we beat them on Saturday, we have a 1 game lead on NAU and Sac State has 3 tough road games to close the season. Eagles must do their part, but I think they can and will. They've played essentially 4 one possession games in a row, won 2 of them and all while riding their worst shooting slump of the season.

clawman,
Made my regular trip to campus with my side kick ;) ;) ;) , we saw the MBB Team doing their practices, etc. Everyone is ready to go :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: with the exception of Sir Washington. He was doing some work with the Trainer, he looks like he is coming along very well, with a little limp. Everyone was shooting very well today, hoping it carries over to the game tomorrow night. Noticed on the other side of Reece Court, some of the tarp has been rolled back, so there are two rows of seats if needed, they stated if need be they could roll more of the tarp back. Good Luck tomorrow Eagles. We will be there. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

To All,
Already I am having the FB Withdrawal. Saw most of the Defensive Players on the Red Turf, working out and getting into condition. The ones that were not there, had exams to take. We are going to have another great team. Practice will commence after Spring Break. #91--Samson Ebukam had surgery on his right shoulder after last year, he stated he should be back for Summer, ready to go. Anyone else having Football Withdrawal? What I have heard that all Players from last year are back, and ready to go. Vic Wallace

We are still ranked 22nd in the nation in field goal percentage (.478). We hit a rough patch. Some turbulence. Whatever you want to call it. I think the law of averages will kick in and everything will balance itself out down the stretch. Our shooters didn't all of a sudden become bad shooters. If we shoot two or three percent better in our last couple of losses we probably win and that's still shooting below what we're used to. If we get back up to our average I like our chances to Dance  .

To All,
Seems as if Venky is coming out of his slump, due to his ankle injury. Harvey is still struggling, along with some of the other Players. Our Players are not going to struggle much more, I think this Saturday, they will all be at their best. I think we can bet on a "Full House" this Saturday, Montana travels very well. You may see the Tarp on the other side of Reese Court pulled back. I think we could have a crowd as big as five thousand. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: .BTW Tyler Harvey DAD is a BB Official, he will be at Reese Court to see his son play. He then will go to Gonzaga that evening to call GU-Game. Last time I saw a crowd like that was years ago we had three Bands playing for May 8, which was known as "Outdoor Intercourse Day". I will bet LAPDX, remember those days. ;) ;) ;) . We had over 10, 000 people in that building, tarp on the floor, and they placed was packed, as soon as the lights went out, everyone started to light up what they had available :o :o :o we had to open more doors for Safety Purposes. Enough of the "MEMORIES" Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

hahah WTF? Outdoor Intercourse day? You been puffing a little mary jane Vic Wallace? 10K in Reese Court???

JasonEWU,
Maybe I should have explained better. Yes there were approximately 10,000 personnel in Reese Court. The Bleachers were not utilized, they were pushed back in place. BB Floor was covered with tarp. Everyone that was not seated in seats, sat on the BB Court Floor, they looked like Sardines.    You might not have heard the name for May 8, functions, it was called "Outdoor Intercourse Day" originated from the East Coast Universities. This was every year for about 5 years, until we had some young High School Students got themselves in trouble. The Mall was an area also where the students also had fun, I know, I worked those activities, along with Cheney Police & Sheriff Department. We were stationed around the Mall, trying to keep Alcohol out of the area. People found ways to get the booze into the area. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;). Vic Wallace

Well, here are the cold hard statistics for guys that play, or have played significant minutes this year:

Categories in order = FG % followed by FT % followed by 3PT %
Bogdan Bliznyuk -----.608 .782 .545
Venky Jois ----------- .599 .562 .333
Garrett Moon --------.563 .000 .500
Kyle Reid -------------.500 .444 .000
Tyler Harvey----------.473 .850 .431
Ognjen Miljkovic ----.432 .730 .398
Drew Brandon -------.413 .811 .254
Parker Kelly----------.401 .791 .454
Felix Von Hofe ----- .385 .615 .375
Sir Washington ----- .375 .818 .286

What this tells me is that Venky and Blizzard need to be getting the ball a lot more. They are both very efficient when they take the ball inside. Overall, for the year, our team has shot a pretty high FG %. Currently 23rd Nationally. This Eags team can heat it up :fuel: in a hurry and hopefully we heat it back up during the tourney :thumb: .

there you have it. Bogdan needs more playing time. I actually like the rotation where him and Venky are on the court at the same time.
