Should the Bison remain No. 1?

Yes. Gotta beat the best to be the best, not flame out in the semis. Bison are #1 until beaten.
That is true but why have preseason polls in any sport? Using that train of thought the years end results are the only thing relevant until after the first games.

I am inclined to agree with clawman. Following this logic we should say "You're not the number two until you beat the number two." Then, "you're not the number 3 until you beat the number three" and so on. I know number three onward is speculative, but you know what I mean. We might as well just look at last year's results for the preseason. This is flawed logic, because the 2014 teams are different than the 2013 teams.

The preseason should be a premature, shot in the dark prediction of who will be the champion of the 2014 FCS division.

I think EWU is the better team this year, but I think NDSU deserves the #1 ranking preseason. It's not like they had a one year wonder and won on a fluke last year. They are the 3 time defending champ and until they are knocked off, they should be #1. They return a big part of that championship defense this year, it will be interesting to see how they perform with a new QB and coach...

Would love to play them in the playoffs...

I think most everyone would agree that EWU was itching for a game vs the Bison in 2012 and in 2013. I hope we see them as well. They will have a giant target on their back, no matter where they are ranked.

NDSU lost a ton of talent off their team from last year, including their coach and four year starter at quarterback. It's a different team.

Exactly. Pre-season polls are for the pundits to speculate on who they think the best teamis going into that season, not the prior year.
