Soccer Countdown 4 - Boehler

Less than two weeks now until the first game, and I move to offense with Jana Davis-Boehler. Speculation is that Jana will be one of the two team captains this year (along with Kilee Quigley.) Jana will play a key roll in the offensive attack of the Bengals.

Jana Davis-Boehler

Jana was by far the strongest offensive player on the Bengals last season. She scored six goals to lead the team, and posted three assists as well. Jana both earned Player of the Week honors in the Big-Sky and was named as an Honorable Mention on the All-Conference Team. Jana was also one of three returning ISU players (along with Karissa Henage and Anna Marie Hoffstetter) to earn All-Academic honors in the Big-Sky. Last season, Jana was second in the Big Sky in game-winning goals, tied for second in total goals, and tied for fourth in total points. This accomplishment is particularly remarkable when you consider that ISU was dead last in offense in conference play.

Jana started every game last season. Opponents key on her because she is always a threat. Her two strongest attributes are her speed and her shot. Jana knows how to use a quick start and burning speed to leave defenders in the dust. But she also has a killer shot. Probably my favorite Davis-Boehler goal of the year was her game-winning shot late in the game against Idaho. Running at full speed with a defender on her heels on the left side of the field, Jana launched a powerful blast the sailed across the face of the goal in to the right upper corner. Jana is particulary adept at finding the back of the net. Last season, although Jana put up five fewer shots than team leader, Natalie Graham, she scored twice as many goals.

Academically, Jana is a senior this year at ISU, but lost the chance to play soccer her sophomore year due to an illness. For that reason, she has another year of eligibility if she chooses to take it. ISU soccer fans can't help but hope that we get two more years out of Jana.

Jana is also setting a record for playing under three names in three seasons, Jana Davis, Jana Boehler, and now Jana Davis-Boehler. The last one is our offices doing....
