Softball 2016

Things haven't looked good for our softball team this pre-conference season; we've hit well enough, but our regular pitchers are at best average, with eras running from .600 and up. But today light shown in the tunnel! Freshman Alyssa Burk started and finished today, a two-hitter and 10 count them 10 strikeouts against U Hawaii. We won 1-0 on a home run by Kraker. This is after beating Utah Valley twice in the tournament. It's been a good show in Hawaii.
 
We finished at the Hawaii tournament this morning with another win against Utah Valley, 4-3. Burk pitched again, giving up three hits and striking out seven. All of UV's runs came off of wild pitches; she's a freshman, after all. The way it looks now, she could be another Bertrand. Let's hope so.
 
We split two very good games yesterday. The first we lost to Pitt, the ACC Champion, 0-1. It was a pitcher's battle, their ace pitcher (6-0) holding us to 3 hits and no runs. The promising side to this is the pitching of Alyssa Burk, our freshman pitcher. She held them to 5 hits and only one run. And she went the whole route.

The second game we won against San Diego behind the pitching of Meghan, 3-1. And she went the route a well, giving up only 3 hits. She not only pitched well, she also singled in a run, the first of her career I think. And Orozco hit a homer at the end to put the game away. It looks like we have two good pitchers, which bodes well for the conference games coming up.
 
We're six games into conference now, standing 3-3 in the middle of the pack. Looks good, though it's early in conference play. We went 1-2 against Weber State and 2-1 against Southern Utah. In conference play the pitching is holding up well: Hendrix with a 1.91 ERA, Wright 2.8 ERA, Crawford 3.68 ERA, and Burke 4.85 ERA. In the last three games Crawford came in in relief pitching 6 innings and gave up only 2 hits and no runs. That may become a habit. As for hitting, we have 7 players batting over .333, 3 of them over .500. Hitting is certainly not a problem!
By the way; we've got video on these games. Don't have to go to watch!
