Some perspective

Well, it wasn't a pretty win (again), but I think everyone who follows Big Sky football closely knew this was going to be a tough game. But here's a little perspective going into next week's game:

1.) Despite not playing a complete game in all three phases, we still won.
2.) We had several of these type of games in 2010, and that turned out ok.
3.) For the first time in school history, EWU is 5-0 in conference play. Even in all our playoff seasons, to include the 1997 and 2010 runs, we didn't start conference play at even 4-0.
4.) Even if we are not the #1 ranked team in the polls tomorrow, it really doesn't matter. Right now, EWU still controls its own destiny and can grab a playoff seed by winning the games it should. This is a very good position to be in.
5.) Southern Utah will be another tough opponent, but EWU has the better team. We have beaten them down there before and can do it again, which would potentially set up a HUGE game with Cal Poly at home the following weekend.

I'm not nearly as concerned coming out of this game as I was Montana State. The previous game, Eastern struggled to keep up with an opponent that made a lot of mistakes. Sac State, on the other hand, played really well and did almost everything right. Any time you can beat a team that is firing on all cylinders, you've got to feel OK about it.

It sucks, but there just aren't any gimmes on our schedule this year. We got gyped by not playing Idaho State and UNC. You could say Southern Utah isn't great, but clearly they're capable of beating us if we don't have a decent game. Still, it would be damn nice to see us put together a performance like NDSU did and just rout someone.

If our linebackers play a better game, our receivers put some sticky on their hands, and our O-line holds blocks a little longer, we will be just fine. :thumb:

agree on the LB play they sure did seem to play a whole hell of a lot better against MSU. On the Oline, I think our pass blocking is pretty good but boy do we seem to have problems blasting folks off the line and creating holes for our backs. For some reason all of our backs seemed to want to run sideways all game long, even Bronson who clearly is a north/south runner!

Agree on the receivers part not only this game but the MSU game as well, when we get Debord back that will help, we are kind of banged up at LB'er.
Now the distraction of the QB play.

I thought Debord was our left tackle, and I wasn't tracking he was injured. Are you taking about McCarthy?

A win is a win...Sac St is a damn good team, a lot better than I expected. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Cal Poly next week.

Right now we are undefeated in conference and ranked #1, I don't care how we got there, its a really cool deal, and I'll take a win any day of the week. With all the close games it is really starting to feel like 2010 again...something just seems special about this team...

I honestly didn't think Sac State was very good. They were sitting at below or maybe right at average. We had a few key places on our teams not click which made it a close game.

I realize Debord is our left tackle, he was not playing Saturday and # 73 T J Boatright was in his place. We has a couple of key plays called back due to penalties and the D-end on that side was kind of schooling TJ.
And yes McCarthy was on the sideline in streets.

I thought Curtis was the backup LT?
