we have lost 5 conf games in a small span as of late, we have 1 game left, suu in ogden. can we get it done and get the 2 seed? there is a tiny chance to be co-champs. msu have already won their first big sky title in 20 seasons, if they lose to sac, we can be co-champs but i dont think anyone expects that to happen.

the last time msu won it was in 2002, i went to the conf tourney that yr in bozeman. we smoked psu in the first rd then lost to ewu in the semi. we had an 18 win season and were the 3 seed. that was also the yr we beat colorado st, wisconson and LSU. msu ended up losing the champ game to the griz, that was before larry k, i dont remember who the coach was.

I don't remember who the coach for UM was either, but for some reason pee pee or wizz came to mind.

Saturday's game should be a good one. We need to do like the football team did and send those guys out with their tails tucked between their legs.

We had our chances at the championship, but laid couple of eggs. We've had an okay season and it is likely we will see some post season action, regardless of what happens in Boise. However, I still want to see us win out. :coffee:

Don Holst was the Griz coach that year.

Interesting Oldrunner's take on the BSC tournament. In Missoula "the championship" is winning the BSC tournament so your team can play in the NCAA tournament. Griz coach mentions frequently the need to peak at the right time to play well in the tournament and get to the NCAA's.

If you go back to Rahe's first year in 2006-2007, Weber has won 5 regular season titles since then and 3 tourneys. In the same period Montana has 5 regular season titles and 5 tourneys (with three different coaches) . Weber's won both the regular season "championship" and tourney in 3 of those years...Montana both in 4 of those years. Rahe and Weber haven't won the tourney unless they also won the regular season. Portland State, North Dakota, Eastern Washington and Montana all have.

These stats confirm Montana and Weber have been the dominant regular season and tourney BSC teams over the past 16 years.

My mistake, Tinkle didn't come in until a couple of years later.

IMHO, going to the dance when you are not the champions is worse than not impressive coming out of the BSC. Dump the tournament or at least give the top team a significantly higher chance of going to the dance. For the BSC to be doing what they are is not productive. Just be who we are and quit trying to be the PAC#.

I agree with your position. I'd prefer the regular season winner to take the NCAA spot. But under current format the "prize" is a chance to play in Big Dance by wnning the conference tourney vs. hanging a banner in your arena next year because you won the regular season title.

I guarantee you that every player on every team in the BSC wants a chance to play in the NCAA tourney. Moreso than hanging an arena banner next fall (the seniors that helped earn it wont even be around).
