Sorry North Dakota

They already weren't using the native american logo anymore. Just the wannabe Notre Dame interlocking N and D. UND was warned by the NCAA way back in 2006 about their logo and nickname. So it is their own fault if they can't get the name change done by this past monday deadline. It is hostile/abusive when they didn't have permission from both tribes to use the name. the Standing Rock Sioux's tribal council refused to change its LONG-STANDING OPPOSITION.

They are going to try and have it changed by the end of the year so they don't get NCAA sanctions and jeopardize joining the Big Sky. Before UND can change its name it must also be approved by the board of directors of the alumni assoc.

Then NCAA looked into 33 mascots before announcing its ban on American Indian nicknames in 2005. 14 of those schools changed their nicknames before the 2006 ban. UND did nothing.

I dont care what anybody says, North Dakota was NOT dissrespecting the Sioux tribes by using the name for thier school.

If the NCAA ia going after schools with "Indian" mascots, they need to go after Cowboys, Vikings, Trojans, Aztecs, Lumberjacks, Notre Dame FIGHING IRISH, Pirates, Knights, etc, its only fair.

It wont be long till peta gets involved and using nicknames like Grizzlies, Wildcats, Bengals, etc, will also be banned.

Every "plaid adorned American" ("Lumberjack") in Flagstaff cares not one bit as there hasn't been a functioning sawmill in Northern Arizona in ages.

I tended to like the hippies in Flagstaff more often than not. There were quite a few protests/booths set up in front of the student union when I was there for school but, surprisingly, never once for an offensive school mascot. NAU never quite reached the level of the movie, "P.C.U.".

Re: the UND mascot. I personally didn't find their mascot artwork to be offensive. I never saw some kid from the suburbs dressed up in full Sioux regalia like I have for U of Illinois and Florida State games. But I'm not native American so I don't believe I have a say so in whether or not they should be offended. My Apache friend from high school/NAU told me that she wasn't physically harmed by all of this but that she was not a mascot either.

UND shouldn't be the Sioux just like BYU shouldn't be the Mormons and NMSU shouldn't be the Mexicans and Washington shouldn't be the Redskins and Utan shouldn't be the Utes and FSU shouldn't be the Seminoles and Idaho St shouldn't be the Potaters and SUU shouldn't be the Thunderbirds (I don't know what that is) and Hawaii shouldn't be the Rainbows (gay) and Montana shouldn't be the Alcoholics and Wake Forest shouldn't be the Demon Deacons (to religious) and Arizona St shouldn't be the Sun Devils (to religious).
