Some of you have concerns (and rightly so, in my mind) about the prospects of a D-II like Dixie State. They DID finish 7-4 in the RMAC in 2018, not good enough to be ranked either nationally or regionally (regional rankings are a "think" in D-II, it seems). As such, they didn't make the playoffs. I'm not sure what their recent history indicates, but a winning record against D-II competition is a positive sign, though an extended mid-season losing streak is a point of concern. I'd say that, pending further information, Dixie State is somewhere above middle-of-the-road, but certainly not tip-of-the-top in D-II.
That said, would a mediocre or just slightly better D-II like Dixie State or an historically competitive NAIA like Carroll (three NC appearances and a title since 2010, though recently experiencing bad times) be a better choice? Dixie would be the third UT school, but that would be balanced by Carroll being potentially being the third MT school.
Actually, I just found out that Azusa Pacific recently moved up to D-II, and they did fairly well this past season (a 7-2 D-II record). Would an up-and-comer like that be a good choice, though they'd be a 4th CA team?
