We can all debate how good SUU may or may not be, but does anyone else see a lot of parallels between them and Eastern of 20 years ago?
They have no money, no fan support, and get very little support from their university admin. Their facilities would only be considered mediocre at the D-II level. Sound familiar? It sure does to me.
However, they have a couple of huge things in their favor. First off, they have had great coaches in that program. Second, they are in a state that has tremendous HS talent-- at least compared to the other states with Big Sky teams. Again, sound familiar?
And while they don't seem capable of being a winner year-in and year-out, they are able to get a great product onto the field every few years. And they do it by being a dominating defensive team. Again, sounds a lot like Eastern of the early 90s.
