With now having the tourney in Reno our OOC schedule is that much more important. We need to have a higher RPI so that if we do falter in Reno we can get calls to play in other post season tourneys. Even if we lose every game in OOC against good solid DI schools we can have the opportunity to play post season basketball.

Look at the team with Scotty and Frank. We won some solid games and turn some heads doing it. But we lost in the sky tourney and we got the CIT. Not the most prestigious tourney but hell ya I had fun going to those games. But even with our resume, we still got the bottom of the barrel post season tourney.

Gotta have a solid OOC schedule to get looks for the post season cuz well, we play in the sky..

Regardless, keep in mind that a auto NIT bid goes to the team that wins the regular season championship but loses in the conference tourney. I don't think that arrangement has changed(?), no matter the RPI, it would only effect the seeding in the NIT tourney. :coffee:

I guess WSU played a closed scrimmage against Colorado State. It's so annoying we can't get some OOC home games against some decent D-1 teams.
Overwhelming depth is a great problem, sure, but the Rams need chemistry with their rotations and after a month of practicing against itself and a closed scrimmage against Weber State (which Eustachy isn’t allowed to comment on per NCAA rules), it’s hard to tell which players work best together or which point guard will start...

What a tool Eustachy is. Anyone know where this scrimmage was held?

The game was held at CSU. It's a good start, but that is all it is. This team just needs to maintain its focus. We need to show no mercy to SVU. We need to learn to play hard and finish, no matter what the score is or who we are playing. With the depth and youth we have, the day to day competition, we should continue to get better late into the season.

Let's get it on!

Anybody having any luck with video I keep on getting a ad?

I hope it's not the pukes basketball sponsor ad, like the one fowling up the Wildcat Forums page. It's sh1t like this that just dampens the Weber State experience.

Observations:
first, I was surprised to see Baker starting over Gittens. I think I like it for two reasons: Baker seems to be a good facilitator on the floor; and bringing Gittens off the bench can bring a lot of energy. In fact, the 1st 3 off the bench (Gittens, Hill, and Cannon) all bring good energy to the floor.
second, real nice to see Richardson open the game with a couple of 3s. Weber is going to need him and Senglin to knock down 3s this year. Team was 5 for 10 in 1st half from 3. Something like 2 -14 in the 2nd half. This could be a major problem.
third, hard to judge the performance of Bolomboy, Braxton, and HIll last night as SVU didn't have much of an inside presence at all.
4th, I was surprised that Jefferson was the 6th man off the bench. I heard some good things about him at the end of his red shirt year last year was expecting he would play more of a role this year. Saw Rahe shake his head a few times at things Jefferson did while he was in there last night.
5th, not sure what to make of the 2nd half, where we only outscored SVU by 1. We were up 25 already.
In the end, SVU not much of a test. Real test coming this Friday and then a quick trip to S. Dakota right after. We'll learn a lot more in those 4 days.

I was happy with the play of the first five and the next three. I was happy to see everyone play, who was going to play.

My observations.

The higher the number of freshmen on the floor, the worse our defense became. That was to be expected. Related to that, SVU was often playing 5 guards. That situation can sometimes make bigger players look bad. The good part of that is that we will see a lot of BSC teams play with 4 guards. We need to get used to it.

I really liked the energy boost when Hill, Gittens, and Cannon entered the game. Hill's game looks to be much improved, Cannon is a tough, highly competitive player, and Gittens seems to be more involved when he is counted on to score more.

Some of the new guys seemed a bit nervous. That should get better with experience. You can see the talent. They just need to play more instinctively and not think so much.

We had 10 turnovers, good, and 13 assists, mediocre.

Shooting/scoring will not be a problem for us. That second half was not about trying to run the score up. It was all about getting minutes and situations for the younger guys. Those guys will get better.

We need to get more rebounding out of our guards. Our big players did great, but the guards need to do more. :thumb: :thumb:

Nothing to do, so I took another look at the stats from this game.

I am not happy with the play of our guards, defensively. To be successful, I feel that we need our guards to create more possessions than they did Saturday night. They are going to need to rebound more, or create more turnovers. It's that simple.

Our guards didn't show up in either of those categories. If we have to do it with pressing or trapping, we have the depth for it. If we are not going to do that, then our guards are going to have to get dirty and rebound. We can't get to where we want without one of those things happening.... My opinion. :coffee:

It was fun to see everyone play and to see a bunch of different lineups. Also, it seemed that coach was interested in keeping it as simple as possible. He didn't run a bunch of different defenses or show off a bunch of offensive sets. The second half was a bit worrisome. We only outscored SVU by 1 in that half, but then again, there were a lot of different combinations utilized by the coaching staff. Also, the team missed a lot of open three attempts. I did love the passing and feel that that will only improve the more this team plays together. I do feel that Weber has two zone killers in Hill and Kiko. Kiko has a nice touch and Hill has really improved his play around the basket. Granted, this was a game against a DIII, who were playing 4 guards, but I really liked Hill's play. He brings so much coming off the bench and he will still get good mins on the floor.

Our defense was a little soft. We have to get tougher on the defensive side of the court. Way to many easy buckets by SVU.
