What do you guys think? Is this a good pick up for the cats? Auto mission kid I assume?

My feelings are that he is a talented, tall point guard who's body needs a few years to mature. A mission may do him a world of good as a player. This signing has the potential to help our program in a lot of ways. Everything I see, tells me that we are getting a good player with really good leadership qualities and the potential to be a great member of our community.

Welcome aboard, Spencer! :coffee:

Spencer is a tremendous pick up for the Cats. He is a local kid, who would have been offered a scholie by the Y if they had space. Utah and Utah State both showed interest but weren't willing to offer him a scholie, because, he is an automatic mission kid. That is two in a row for Rahe that he has gone down to Utah County and stolen a kid out of the BYU and UVU backyard. I'm very excited for Spencer to be a Wildcat. Not just because he can flat out play, caught his game at the Dee in the state tourney, but also, because he is a salt of the earth good guy. He is someone this program is built upon and will continue to help keep our Cats at a high level. Johnson and Court playing together is a scary combination. It will happen!! Exciting future to look forward to for the Cats.

WELCOME TO WEBER SPENCER!! WE ARE WEBER!!

All the complaints about Randy signing great athletes who need to develop skills, should be fading away now. The skill level of our recruits has been getting better over the past few years and we still have some great athletes in the program. I like the mix we are developing. :thumb: :thumb:

He seems like a great kid. I like the addition and am excited to see what he brings to the program. Yes, we will have to wait, but we all knew that was going to be the case. I think with the dearth of available scholarships it was a great move on the part of Coach Rahe. He wanted to get the best he could get from the automatic missionary pool and I think he got it. Like last year, I really feel that Randy scored big time. He found a diamond in the rough, and part of that reason is the fact that Spencer Johnson is an automatic mission kid. The other state universities (other than UVU and SUU, who both offered) didn't quite feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger on Johnson, but they all showed interest, from what I have heard. I also heard that one was willing to give him a preferred walkon, not sure how reliable that source is though. Regardless, I really think, like Riley Court, that Rahe got a major steal. Final thought, his dad played for USU.

I like the fact hat he had some of his best games against the very best competition. He was close to a triple double a few times. He fill a stat sheet. :thumb: :thumb:

I like that against the 3 California teams he went for 9, 9, and 10....just teasing you olds....something for everyone in those stats...

You are right. I see what I want to see. Life is more bearable that way. :kisswink:

In my defense, I was looking at the Lonepeak games. They were very good.

In his first game of the season, against Provo, Spencer had 22 points. I couldn't find any other stats on his games so far this season. MAXPREPS has some box score stats on him, but I am not a subscriber.

If anyone has additional stats for him, please chime in. :coffee:

That's what I mean. They only have his scoring. There are no assist, steals, rebounds or any other stats. I don't know why it is such a big secret.

Last year he had good numbers in those areas, but I can't find anything this year, so far. I'm sure that somebody, somewhere has those stats. :coffee:

I don't know that it's a secret, it doesn't appear that American Fork, Provo, Northridge, or several others are reporting their box scores to MaxStats (MaxPreps), at least not at this point in the season. It's up to the schools what scoring tools they use and who they report their stats to. American Fork and Northridge don't even have rosters loaded so maybe their not planning on using MaxPreps this season.

Most schools don't report to MaxPreps so MaxPreps doesn't have stats or box scores for those schools. Rarely do you find full stats on MaxPreps.....they have never to my knowledge ever had "full stats" and box scores for any team or player that I have researched....

It's all about the school's preference. MaxPreps has had considerable information the past few years for Utah teams and players but it seems many have changed to something else this year or maybe nothing at all. I've seen seen it because I've been using MaxStats (at the request of my daughter's high school coach) to produce accurate stats from film for the 5A team she plays for. This is the first time I've noticed so many teams without rosters loaded.

Against Viewmont this week, Spencer had 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 steals. Not a bad outing against a good team.

According to twitter, Spencer was the MVP of the 2016 North vs. South All-Star game. Also, he was recognized by the Tribune as one of the top seniors in the state. Congrats to Spencer!! Also, heard that he will be serving his mission in Italy.

The reason his numbers were low in Cali: he was sick. Shouldn't even have played, but toughed it out to help his team.
