SPRING BALL

Well, today the players were being timed in the 40, and a few of them have pulled some hamstrings, right before the start of Spring Camp.....not a good thing. I know some of them have actually gotten 'weaker' with the current strength conditioning program, and a lot of them have nagging injuries that have not healed up during this off season conditioning period.

The challenge is if you have guys that are dinged up before Spring ball even begins, imagine what might be the outcome after Spring ball...... just thinking out loud.....

GO CATS

I'm not a coach but I don't think the winter time is a good time to run a full out 40 when the players have only been running twice a week. Hopefully the players that got injured during the 40s make a speedy recovery and get to participate in spring ball. Yeah I heard about the strength program that one of the newer coach's implemented and by no means does it belong in a collegiate football program.

Coach Hohn does a good job with the strength program, a little too old school though. He does need to incorporate some more explosive workouts. What would be nice is if they brought in a speed coach to work with the players.

former cat, i hear you loud and clear. more explosive drills would be great, too many guys getting dinged up before spring ball, not good. lot of frustration, but the summer will give them more time to train and prepare for the season.

current training program is from Mars, not efficient and promotes injuries. Coach Mac gotta see that guys are getting weaker not stronger, and that hurts everyone. let the hitting begin.....

Well the problem is that they guy doing the training knows absolutely shiz about it. Mac doesn't like Hohn okay, don't hurt your guys by having a coach that knows far less about trainig, than Hohn, enforce it. Thats it petty and absolute suicide for your team. Look elsewhere. There are plenty of options on campus. Hell Weber is a major university that has an athletic training degree. Goodness, one of my best friends would be perfect. He knows his stuff. He trained Janikowski last summer and we all know how improved of a player he was/is.

It isn't rocket science. During this past period of the off season, is the best time to fully recover fromt he past season, work on gaining strength and speed, and most importantly not weaken or injure your body. Spring Ball is a time to get a jump start on the type of offense/defense the team will be running in the upcoming season, you aren't suppose to be injured at the conclusion. I'd limit contact, if I were a coach. Endurance, strength, speed, and agility are worked on before two a days and then its go time with the plays. Two a days shouldn't be a time to get your team in shape, they should come in shape, its a time to hone your plays and get in hitting condition. I would have had the guys in the pool (low impact training, keeps your heart in great condition and helps an athlete fully recover) and hitting the weights.

Does WSU even still have a football team? Nice of Weber State to "officially" announce the upcoming schedule yesterday. It's only been on their website for over a month. Anyway, did spring ball get canceled or will they announce in July that WSU did in fact have spring ball in April? Come on weberstatesports.com it shouldnt be this damn hard to stay up to date and current. Im pretty sure that WSU athletics is run by these guys.

Too bad the rest of AD staff isn't up to snuff like compliance obviously is.....
That or they're busy dreaming up the next promo ( white surgical gloves ). That is just too embarrassing to even think about...
Who's taking Brad Larsens position of helping Joe Strand in the baño?

I also want to hear Joker and the Thief every game, not every 6 games...
Why is it Joes decision?
Why can't it be played at the start of games AND when the game is on the line down the stretch if necessary?
We also need a song to get pumped with 1 minute before 2nd half play starts every game...

I do like how you bring it when the officials are exiting the tunnel AJ, didn't know that was you.... :thumb:

I agree, kind of like a 'quiet opening' of sorts....frustrating, but the boyz are balling either way.

GO CATS!!!!

Not my area of expertise, but I'll address some questions.

1) The white surgical glove promotion occurred because a booster saw that Utah State had done it and donated several boxes of the gloves for us to give away at the final game. I guess the clapping from the gloves creates a distinct, uniform sound.

2) The spring game will be Saturday April 16. Location is TBA because the stadium turf is being torn out. I believe the plan right now is to have it at the practice field, but I do not know if that's official.

anyone make it to the scrimmage this morning? heard we need to improve on both sides of the ball :( lot of guys dinged up, what's up with that? hmmmmm,

What scrimmage? If it wasn't for this board, I wouldn't even know that spring ball was going on. Nothing on weberstatesports.com and nothing in any of the newspapers.

Its in the Standard, the Trib, and on Weber's athletics page.
My mistake. I wasn't expecting anything since spring ball started like 2 weeks ago and nothing until now had been mentioned.

From what I have seen Weber State may have the best young offensive line coming back next year. With Oram? returning at LG and all your center and right side of the line only being sophomores with a full year of experience playing can only lead to good things.

There may be a few offensive lines like EWU's or Sac State's that I like a little better but WSU's has the most potential for improvement.

Your defensive line is very physical and getting Beastman back will definitely help.

I don't think being a physical team has ever been Weber's problem. If there was one area where historically I think that Weber needs to improve is team speed at the linebacker position as a unit. Most of the time your team lines up a bunch of thumpers at that position.

Next year UM Griz may have the fastest set of linebackers in the conference and it shows up on defense. MSU struggles from the same problem at linebacker which was exposed vs NDSU.

Big Sky will really be interesting next year.

Thats what Im thinking, I noticed alot last season that Weber's LB's were a little slow to respond sometimes, they got better as the year went on, but in the early games vs EWU, Sac and UNC, Weber had a very difficult time stopping the run after it got past the line of scrimmage. Also our defensive ends need to do a better job of containing, alot of outside runs killed us last year because our defensive ends couldnt contain the runners and keep them from going outside.

I think our offense will be better this year, I think with the added element of a running QB, (something Weber never has) will make it harder for teams to scout us, Weber never has problems finding running backs, and I think Mac got a great recruiting class, I think Weber will be the suprise team of the Big Sky.
