I see by the number of posts that you're new. Many cannot but suspect that perhaps you're here to start a rumor. Or perhaps you're here to warn us of an actual impending crisis, that the program is flawed or being conditioned to fail and be sacrificed.
At the coaches' lunches (Old Spaghetti Factory), there are some insiders who can likey lend support. One way is to ask the coach directly to get his perspective and then ask caring others there if they agree and in what measure.
I think your conclusion right now may serve no better purpose than to cast aspersions on the coach before all the facts are in. You could be right, but you may also be incomplete in your factfinding. All we have to go on is your word, that of a newcomer with perhaps nothing more than a casual or perhaps even pernicious interest. This is a forum in which posters can claim just about anything to start a rumor.
No credible conclusion can be reached until we have all the necessary and sufficient data to make that determination. Right now, we have some data: We do see some players abandoning ship. But why are they leaving? Are they being dismissed, disincentivized or are they fleeing a burning ship? You claim the latter, but I am not yet convinced and am willing to give the potentially-innocent the benefit of the doubt for now.
We need more information and I would urge the coach (or even better, the athletic director or adjunctual leadership) to bring about transparency on this issue. A Viking Vision presentation would provide reassurance. This issue likely needs to be brought out into light.
What's going on? You recruit these guys and now they're leaving? Did you get players to excel them? Did they have bad attitudes? Did they not fit into the program scheme? Are there personality clashes? Why this pattern of departure of these prized player recruits?
BroadwayVik I am not here to start any rumors that is not my thing. What is interesting for me is that when it was stated that another player supposedly told someone the young man Dean had a "bad attitude, was always late and had a huge ego" and then stated that they were glad the player was gone... was never questioned. So is it ok to speak about the young man negatively without knowing his story? The young man was not given the benefit of the doubt and couldn't that be looked at as being a rumor? In listening to some of these young men I just know that there is more to the story then the player has an attitude or it must have been about grades. I also heard for myself with my own ears how the coaches, not just the Head Coach come at some of the young men. I'm not really concerned with whether a person believes what I am saying or not. As adults we sometimes feel that we can say whatever and do whatever and that they do not have a right to respond or feel a certain type of way. We demand respect from them but sometimes forget to give them respect as well. It is a two way street, that is how relationships are built. If I am a player and you told me that when I arrived at your school that the basic things that I needed to be successful would be provided for me and then I get there and nothing you said while you were recruiting me, is taking place wouldn't I be within my right to be angry and maybe even have an attitude? If I am asking you a question in regards to things that you said to me and you totally disregard my question(s), wouldn't I have a right to feel some kind of way? Some of these young men are a long way from home, for them their coach should be there support system, someone they can come to with their problems or if they are struggling to adjust, or if they just have some personal things that they need to talk about. Respect,Honesty, Trust and Communication are required to building a cohesive relationship between a coach and his players. It could be the difference between a 1 point loss and a 1 point win. Those players will fight harder for you because you have built that relationship. There is normally two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in between. Yes I have only posted a few times because this board is not really active and also because I like to observe more and contribute if I have something to say in regards to the conversation. I am not here to try to convince anyone of anything.
We had a really good team this past season and really just needed a few more pieces. Do I think the team can be successful yes but I also believe that those players who are gone played important parts in the success. Hopefully they (Administators) are taking a look at why so many players are transferring in and leaving, some of them I would hate to see playing against us. I believe in giving the benefit of the doubt but that should not only apply to the coach but to the players as well. I enjoyed reading your response.
