Spring Roster

Only three returning linebackers. All of the others are wet behind the ears. Anyone still believe we are not thin at linebacker?

Yup, and there isn't much size either. May be an issue with some of the bigger more physical offenses. I have a feeling we are going to see all of the freshman recruits suiting up this fall whether they are ready or not....

We are in a very offensive minded conference and linebackers have to be good and deep. We need the youngsters to show up and a proven JC transfer(or two) wouldn't hurt.

After seeing the write up I know it is early and didn't see the scrimmage but a 1 for 6 performance isn't going to cut it for West. I also know that the O takes longer than the to gell but. For someone who was there what was your thoughts? Or is it too early to judge.

I noticed that Saugen hasn't packed on the pounds yet. A 210 defensive end is pretty featherweight. I wonder if he is linebacker material? It's not uncommon to move a high school defensive end up to outside linebacker.

I think it is too early to judge based on this limited scrimmage. The offense is going to be fine. I watched the practice before the scrimmage and thought the skeleton drill was the best part of the day. It was very competitive with the defense and offense making good plays. It also showed me that all four QBs on this team are talented. I think West should be the #1. This offensive line is outstanding. I can’t think of any better O line in the BSC.

As far as the LBs, I was impressed with their speed. I realize they are young, and yes there will be a learning curve. I think the young linebackers will benefit from the improved defensive line play. We need Evan Day to get that medical redshirt. Day, Ebukam and Saugan rotating at the ends with a quicker Matthew Sommer on the interior makes for a solid base of a defensive line.

Last year I noticed the young guys on defense had decent speed. From what I saw today I think the defense is definitely faster than last year.

I don't think the heightsnand weights reflect any change from last year. It looks like they just rolled the data over.

Good point. I hope he bulked up. He has awesome feet and a good nose for the ball, but gets swallowed up by any decent offensive tackle.

Jordan Talley has moved back to RB, so that might suggest that the staff feels good about the newcomers. Albert Havili moved to DL assuming due to weight and speed issues. He'll definitely add some talent there.

Regarding comments on the size of the LB's, IIRC we were smallish in 2010 and that was a decent crew  with JC, Zach Johnson, and Tyler Washburn (who I think was the biggest but still not huge).

I see the potential for a ton of improvement at DL and in the secondary. Still young, but experienced and athletic.

Hey kalm,
I'm with you, we don't have to have the biggest LB'ers if they are fast and good football IQ. If we were short at LB I doubt they would have move Tally to RB.
Since we are going to a 4-2-5 scheme do we need less linebackers?

1 for 6? Ouch!!!

Talked with people at Georgetown game that feel Hennessey could end up winning the starting job.

Don't forget that Padron lost the job to VA for part of the season when Adams was a redshirt freshmen.

Not worried with the OLine & WRs returning. Also confident RBs will be ok as long as their healthy.

All on the D. Heard that before.

Some would blame it on the ear rings

To All,
Jordan Talley is no longer playing with the team. He will remain and assist the Coaches with the Players. Since he went back to RB, he continues with headache problems. He is in Pre Medicine, so he knows when to give it up. It is funny, as a Back, he didn't have any problems with head aches. Glad we have him and assist in some ways. Don't forget 2 p.m. Scrimmage. Nice weather today, still a little chilly in the shades. Vic Wallace

Raynes is now the rover in the new set filling that lb spot.

Raynes will be all conference in that spot IMO. Perfect skillset for that position.
