starting 5 this year??

Morrison, Thomas, Huff, Lucas, Dominguez. Theoretically yes. We have a more talented bench, but the active roster will still be very thin. You have to hope injuries don't destroy the team.

Morrison, Tenfenthaler, Huff, Lucas and Dominguez. Yes, we certainly have a very good chance to win the conference. l

I'm excited to see Dominguez this year.

Today is the first day of practice so hopefully we'll have some reports how we look sometime later this week.

WiViking, you say the active roster will be thin. One, I don't know were you can find an active roster to look at, and two, if the Viks have everyone I believe they have, the roster looks deeper then ever.

you can got to espn.com and under mens bball you can click on teams and search for PSU to find a roster. They messed up the years of some of the players but it seems to be mostly accurate as far as players.

Thanks for the info., just went on the site. Didn't see either JR Moore , Justynn Hammond, Sean Smith or Andre Murray on the roster. If that's true, then yeah, the bench is a little thin. Would be nice if goviks.com was fully running.

JR Moore is definitely still on the team. The others, I can't be sure about. I was making the statement assuming Moore, Tiefenthaler, Mara, Coston, and Curtis as the bench to go along with Murray. Hammond hasn't as of yet been declared eligible, so I'm assuming he's out. Smith would be great to have on the team too, but his injury problems have been terrible. Without him, I'm just worried about guard play. Polis doesn't have high-level experience, and Curtis wasn't very good either. Without Smith, they wouldn't have a single shooter outside of Murray, if he is on the team.

I forgot about Mara. The rostor on espn can't be accurate, but unlike goviks.com at least espn has a roster.

Agreed. Mara would be a major step up in rebounding and defense that PSU didn't have outside the center position last year.

I'll have to see what happened to Smith. I play hoops during the winter with his Dad at my gym.

I wonder how his surgery recovery progressed. He was hurt pretty bad last year.

Ian, thanks for the information.

Yeah, I finally received confirmation from a source that Jamie Jones, formerly of the University of Portland, transferred to PSU. He will have to sit out this year, but he was without question the best player on the team last year. Granted, Portland was a bad team last year, but I liked Jones' work ethic and general toughness. Coach Bone is doing a heck of job with this program, I mean Jones, Water and Nelson are quite the transfers. Go Viks!

I cannot wait for the 08-09 season. I think that team will be loaded with talent and only in need of one decent big man to be Big Sky favorites.

The Viks already have received a verbal from Jason Conrad who is 6-11. I bet Bone will look at the JC's to add another big for the 08-09 season.

in case you didn't get a chance to listen to coach bone's part of the big sky conference call today http://blog.oregonlive.com/portlandstatevikings/2007/11/audio_preseason_mens_basketbal.html
he said that Kyle Coston and Tyrell mara are locked in a battle to start at the 4 spot. Kind of surprising that he didn't mention Julius Thomas' name. I haven't made it to practice in the last 2 weeks, so maybe something happened, but it bears watching. I'd still bet on Tiefenthaler to take over eventually once eligible.

I don't look at Coston as a power forward. I also am surprised he didn't mention Thomas, who looked tough last year. Just wished he was 2 or 3 inches taller, but what hustle and energy he has. It will be interesting to see the new members of the team play tonight against Western Oregon.

That makes three of us scratching our heads about Thomas. He did mention 'role player' in the position, maybe he's not fitting that role? We'll see tonight.

You hit the nail on the head Forestgreen about Thomas, the guy brings a ton of energy to the court. Maybe Bone is looking for him to spark the bench play while the starters sit.

I think Ian was referring to "something else" possibly going on with Julius. For you guys going to the game tonight, maybe you can tell me if he's there, on the bench, or in street clothes?? Let us know, as I don't think the game is on the radio tonight.
