Student Attendance

This is really sad to see but below is the student attendance for the 2007-08 season. How can this be possible with 18,000+ enrolled this year?

Game 1: 750
Game 2: 489
Game 3: 98
Game 4: 63
Game 5: no count, scanner malfunction
Game 6: 98
Game 7: 231
Game 8: 147
Game 9: 84
Game 10: 203
Game 11: no count
Game 12: no count
Game 13: no count

These numbers are hard to believe. I think everything we do and plan for next year needs to start with the students! Even if 2,000 students came that would be over 10% of the student body. That seems very doable.

Let's focus on the students! What do you think Purple Pak pres?

Total 2007-08 fan attendance:

Game 1: Utah State 7,791
Game 2: Utah 5,340
Game 3: UMW 2,021
Game 4: CSUB 2,004
Game 5: USF 2,518
Game 6: PSU 2,785
Game 7: EWU 2,897
Game 8: Sac 2,640
Game 9: NAU 3,329
Game 10: ISU 3,227
Game 11: UNC 3,509
Game 12: UM 3,429
Game 13: MSU 6,061
Total home attendance after 13 games - 45,039
Home Average: 3,465 (2006-07: 4,500)

Montana State has the highest home average with 4,700 per game. They are currently 7-7 in league play.

As for the student season tickets that are supposedly being done away with. Only 51 students even got them this year. So basically maybe 5 rows if that in Section V.

Pathetic!!! That is the job of the students and the leadership advisors... Evidently they didn't do a very good job, or do they ever. I'm thinking the Leadership Advisors really don't motivate or allow the student leaders to do much, since each year the student leaders usually end up being apathetic.

i just want to know WHY IN THE CRAP DO THEY SCHEDULE OTHER STUDENT ACTIVITIES AT THE SAME TIME AS GAMES? This is TOTAL Bull Crap!!!

We really have some student issues. NAU is a joke and they average 1,000 per home game. Their JackPack has 630 members and it started this year.

How many do we have in the Purple Pak? 20?

Problem is, no one knows about the purple pak. I had never even heard of the purple pak until one of the games we went to early in conference play. Maybe try and get the word about what it is and what the incentives of joining are. If my friend bigapapa hadnt have been looking for a shirt that night I may have never known!

Good point...it would help if more people knew about the Purple Pak. Now that we know we have one final one game for the conference tournament first round, lets do something about it. Can we?

It is a week from Saturday...get the word out PPak!!

From today's Standard:

"We kind of wanted the No. 2 seed because we wanted to have the bye," said WSU guard Juan Pablo Silveira. "But we're a really good team at home and we expect to have a good crowd, but right now what we've got to focus on is Sacramento State."

Lets not let him down...or the rest of the team.

Can the Purple Pak dust off those big cardboard signs to announce the tournament game this next Saturday. Maybe it will help with marketing the game if it is up all week?

Purple pak, If you need help with those signs for next saturday let me know, im sure I can take some time off from collecting aluminum cans to come help.

Let me tell you that I have only missed two home games all season. I try to show up to as many as possible. I also have gotten one of my really good friends to come with me to every game this year. This is along with my best friend. We need to get people excited about Weber basketball. We need to know them that it is the place to be.

We suck! We need help!

Montana finishes the season 8-8 and averaged 432 students per game and had 2 games with over 1,000 students.

We should have the best numbers in the conference yet we averaged only 240 students per game. There is seriously something wrong with a school that has near 20,000 students and can say there was a home game that had only 63 students.

Also it is pretty pathetic that had 16 home games including the purple and white game and the exhibitions and we only have the student attentance numbers from 9 games.

What has been done this week, other than the signs, to get students to go to the games? Are there posters up in the various buildings on campus, have flyers been handed out to students on campus or placed on cars? Has an email, marked urgent, been sent to the students? Has anyone tried to get a DJ or Band on campus to get students at the games? Anything at the Dorms (Mark the Windows, Put Flyers under the doors of the U.V. apartments and dorm rooms at Promontory, Wasatch, Lasall, and Standsbury), Chalk the campus? Put a banner on the Bell Tower (dont do that you'll get in trouble, I know)? Put signs up in the biggest classrooms on campus? Get the student ambassadors, alumni ambassadors, PPak, Student Lazies, oh sorry, Leader, to help get the word out to the student body... There is no reason why the student section shouldn't have more than 1000 at the game.

Everyone already left for Spring Break. Also having the students fork up 5 bucks is a lot to ask. I still think all factors considering there was a good student turnout. Remember not all students are with the crazy purple pak.

PSU Keeps it real

This shows PSU cares enough to make sure they get a lot of students to the Big Sky Tournamnet. Our school would never even think or care to do the below. I hope PSU goes all the way unless they play us.

From PSU's athletics site:

The first 700 Portland State students, showing valid identification at the door, will be admitted free on each night of the 2008 Intel Big Sky Conference Basketball Championship at The Rose Garden. The free admission is courtesy of Peter Stott, Tom Fink, the PSU student fees committee, and various other donors. Regular student admission at the door will be $12 each.

Our best game of the year we had 750 students. I think we had a couple hundred at best yeserday.

putting the purple pak to shame again and again

jackpack members: 630 (cost $0)
purple pak: 80 (cost $30)

both clubs have basically the same advantages and benefits except the jackpack has more parties and gets way more free food.

http://www.naujackpack.com - NAU tries a lot harder to get students involved it looks like. Maybe we can do some fundraisers to have the money to do the same. Maybe we should find out where they get the funds.

Like the marketing department... Student Government and the Purple Pak need to put together a strategy, by June, that will get students to the athletic events. Actually, SCREW IT!!! Why don't we just put together an alumni/student organization that markets the games. Hell, I'm sure that we could do a far better job...
