Montana goes to Sac State next weekend. That might be the reckoning for the Grizzlies. Regardless, it'll be nice knowing at least one of those teams gets an L on the record.

I hope Sac State is garnering enough interest in their winning program to encourage investment in a new arena. That little matchbox arena they play in is disgraceful. Portland State's gym is no better, but they are only 18 months away from opening a new 4,500 seat arena.

Also, FWIW, I don't consider that Sac State game to be a bad loss... especially without Jois.

Through 20 games, Eastern really only has one head scratcher on the resume; that being the horrific performance at Sam Houston State last month. Losing on the road to SMU, Washington, and Cal is pretty understandable... and all those games were close for most of the contest.

Compare that to any other year in recent memory, where it seemed like every fifth outing or so had some unexplained no-show. It's easy to see the tremendous progress this team has made.

This is definitely a pretty good squad Coach Hayford has built. He was more upset with the Sac State loss than I think the rest of us were. I really expect to see Venky back for Idaho, but that might be wishful thinking!

The best part is we are developing our depth while he's out and we've gone 3-1 while maintaining pace with the conference lead.

The next two weeks will be telling...

Sac and UM play each other this week and neither of those teams have yet to play a road game against the top 1/2 of the conference so things will start to work themselves out.

We have 3 tough games left, @UM, @NAU, and @Weber, I don't think we lose any other games and probably go 2/3 in those 3 games. We do that and we easily take the conference title.

I don't think you can consider the Sam Houston loss a bad loss, they just won 9 games in a row and they are 14-5, they were the 4th straight road game for Eastern in the span of 5 straight on the road.

I don't think you can consider the Sam Houston loss a bad loss, they just won 9 games in a row and they are 14-5, they were the 4th straight road game for Eastern in the span of 5 straight on the road.

I think it was a bad loss, only in the sense that I believe we'd beat them more times than not even in their place if we hadn't been on the 4th road game in less than 2 weeks, and because we actually just played bad.

I think however the team has grown/learned from that game too

One of the altruisms in sports is that in team sports, a major upset bid that falls short (UW) usually leads to a Gawd-awful performance in the next game as all the emotion gets sapped from the team with no upside of seratonin following a big win. The Sam Houston State game was akin to our football team losing on the road to South Dakota a week after being a play away from knocking off UW in Husky Stadium a few years ago.

Yeah, that SHSU team is clearly better than they looked a month ago... but my God, we got held to 52 points in that game. Kentucky might roll Eastern by a big margin, but I suspect he could throw down more than 52.
