Super Bowl Viks: Thomas' Broncos versus Shead's Seahawks

Dear Wim,

If football is truly on their own, then they should get to keep whatever revenue they earn. You are either all in or all out.

The article says "Never mind that football, which raised approximately $1 million in combined paydays with non-conference games against Washington and Cal in the last two seasons, subsidizes other portions of the athletic department and university."

I hope someone here has a better understanding of the situation than me and can explain it to me. If the football program is bringing in less money than it costs to operate, how are they subsidizing other programs?
Are they being forced to share tv or road game money with other programs? If this is the case, GreenGiant's point is spot on.
