SUU Announcers

I gotta tell you after watching the Cal Poly/SUU game on Pluto.tv, the announcers from SUU were clueless. They seemed to know little about football and due to two players wearing the same number for Cal Poly, they seemed to always call the offensive player by the defensive players name and vice versa. This is not about sour grapes because the Mustangs have deserved to lose every game this year the way they have played. You folks familiar with these announcers?

Yes, they are clueless. We've experienced the same thing, year after year. However, I must say that they are typical Southern Utah sorts of people. They think that people who know what they are talking about are evil. It doesn't matter what sport you are talking about either. I have learned to turn the sound off and just watch the game. There are some others like them around the BSC and even some of the NFL games on TV. The only way I can enjoy the game is to turn the sound off. :coffee:

Every program has its own set of homers. That is really their job and each school has paid propaganda color analysts. These guys were originally contracted to be the voice of SUU Sports and in that capacity they are paid to be "partisan" in origin. At Weber we are really fortunate to have such a professional like Steve. He and the NAU guy are both very professional in their presentation. Our last guy, who I loved, was definitely a homer. But, true, some of these hacks are really hard to listen to. UNCO and Sac's dudes are the epitome of painful.

I'm not really talking about homers, because I get that. Every program has that. I'm talking about lacking football knowledge. Cal Poly has a pretty impressive play by play guy named Chris Sylvester. This kid is only 21 years old and has been grooming himself since age 12. Here's an example of his work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qOJkWAA66M

I think SUU has some new guys doing the play by play this year, that may explain why there is a lack of knowledge. It may be a "learning on the job" kinda thing.
