We take care of business and win 67-60. They will treat this as a rvalry and play above their ability, but Weber will be too much for them.

SUU is truly a team with diminished talent. I say Weber takes it going away, 90-74!

Agreed. I think we're going to see some extended time for Cannon, Dallas and Baker, possibly seeing a few minutes from other freshmen.

You can throw the record books out for these games. This is like their super bowl. They will be higher than a kite. :coffee:

SUU has one really good player in guard Randy Onwuasor, I watched a lot of SUU's games against UND and UNC and the kid is good. He is second in the Sky at ppg at 23.0 But other than that SUU doesn't have much else. They are a good offensive rebounding team so our guys are gonna have to crash the boards and limit their second chance points.

I see a comfortable win in our future, as long as we don't get complacent.

We could try to show and switch on screens for him, but I would bet that we will play him strait up for starters. I'd like to see us play a little zone, but I don't think we will see that either. I think we will see our standard and nothing else. No reason to change what is working.

My feelings are that this little bit of rest we are getting will help to rejuvenate our energy and allow us to go into February continuing to improve. :coffee:

SUU's success starts and ends with Onwuasor. He is their guy! Too bad, he is virtually all they've got. Race Parson's was having a nice year, but he hasn't played in the last 12 games. I'm guessing an injury of some sort and yes, the birds still have James McGee. After Onwuasor, he is their most deadly weapon. They have four decent bigs in Calloway, Madunic, Musoko, and Holker. They all average around 5/6 ppg and 3/4 rpg. Calloway seems to be the most consistent big man for the birds.

Remember the foul fests we used to get with their previous coaching?

I'm hoping that we don't see the broken noses and such, this time around. I've only watched them play a couple of times this year. They seem to be a little more conventional in their approach. I don't know that they have the athletes to press us successfully. Playing us man to man would give them the same results it got ISU. I think we will see a little zone and maybe a half court trap. We won't see these guys again this year, so this is the T-Birds only chance against us. They will give us their best game.

I just went over to the SUU and NAU forums to see what their chatter might be. No posts on NAU's board since November 6th. Very little interest in BB there. SUU doesn't seem to have any posts since the entered the BSC. Absolutely no interest in BB there. I don't think that Cedar City knows they have a University in their town. No wonder it is a place that coaches go to get fired or leave to take assistant coaching jobs elsewhere(football).

The score in this game is not what will be interesting. How many SUU fans show up will be the interesting thing. They have some local kids on their roster, so we should have some family members show up. :coffee:

Speaking of the score, SUU gives up a lot of points. They may try to slow the game down, but I wonder if they can do it. I expect us to score a lot. I think we will put up 90 to 100. Not sure what they can put up???

SUU usually travels well. There will be a decent number of fans at the Dee cheering on the birds. I'm not going to mock SUU. Right now, they are kicking our butts getting students excited and involved.

As for the game, I think they will for sure try to slow us down, but the way they score is through speed. So, that will end up being fairly difficult for SUU to succeed if they focus on going slow.

We had an 8 minute scoring draught in the second half and still scored 90 points. We also got a little sloppy with the ball a few times. It's good that it all happened against SUU. To their credit, they were scrappy all game long and proved themselves to be a very good rebounding team. That Anwuasor, or what ever his name is, was a load. We held him in check for a half and then he really burned us in the second half. SUU is a few pieces away from being a good team in the BSC. This new coach has them playing hard and attacking the basket. SUU will win some of their remaining games, I'm sure of it.

Next up, NAU.

NAU blew a 20-point second half lead and lost to ISU tonight 91-90. ISU was down 66-46 with 11 minutes left, then went to a what-have-we-got-to-lose press. NAU turned ball over 12 times in the second half and ISU scored 17 points off TOs in the half. Telfair hit a 3 with 2 seconds left to send it to OT and the Bengals eked one out. NAU is long and deep, they killed us on the boards. They also shot out of their minds for the first 30 minutes. Then they unraveled like a cheap suit under pressure the last 15 minutes.

Nice game ISU. :thumb:

Your guys will need to crash the boards against SUU. I think you can press them as well. They can get a little sloppy with the ball. We didn't press them. We didn't need to. However, I think it may be effective to do so. Good luck Saturday. I'm pulling for you.

Not the prettiest of wins, especially with the lead we had, SUU outscored us by 3 in the 2nd half, what killed us was the 40-29 difference in rebounds, SUU killed us on the boards.

SUU started playing really well in that mid 2nd half and it appeared like we started playing a little complacent. It was a good thing we were playing SUU tonight with as sloppy as we played. Time to regroup and take on the Jacks of NAU.

GO WEBER
