i was surprised to see only huff and jamar as the only unanimous 1st teamers. of course i was expecting most of our starting 5 as first teamers but not even berry or bam or tres? yikes. i also thought cherry would be unanimous.

i will just blame this on suu and und, the 2 newbs.

If Cherry was unanimous, that would have been a huge injustice, considering he's only played in a little over half of Montana's overall games. The only two first-teamers I thought deserved unanimous consideration were Jamar and Berry.

One thing I still don't understand are the Weber State diehards who honestly think Tres is a first-teamer. I don't like the abundance of guards that stock the Big Sky's first-team selections year-in and year-out, but I also don't think a center slot should be picked just for the sake of being picked. There isn't a single big in the Big Sky who deserved first team other than Barden. Tres looks unstoppable/all-conference in one game, and disappears in the next. Not so much do to his effort, but simply from a lack of touches when we get hot outside the arc. Until he consistently puts up big numbers for a full season (although his rebounding and defensive presence improved immensely this year), it's hard to argue for a spot on that coveted first team, especially considering the added depth in a now-larger Big Sky.

tres will get another chance for 1st team next year where as some of these seniors will not. its really hard to get 3 first teamers but weber and griz were just both so good this yr compared to the rest so...

i dont know if it mattered that cherry missed a lot of ooc, these awards are only based on big sky play.

with huff and jamar being the only unanimous can we assume they were the only mvp candidates?

I know Huff is good, but he was no existent in both games he played against the Cats. I believed he deserved the award, but unanimous? I really feel Gabe Rogers is a better player. Oh well.

Five of the top six players in the BSC are back next year. UM loses two starters and WSU loses two as well. With our depth and UMs depth, we will still be 1 & 2 at this time next year. Teams dropping: PSU, SUU, MSU, UCSac. Teams staying about the same: UND, UNC, NAU, EWU. Team on the rise: ISU.

Where does UI fit into all of this??? Probably, middle of the pack. :twocents:

UM's losses are far more significant than Weber's. Yes, losing Bamforth is going to be huge, but hopefully, Gelaun will be more comfortable playing the 2 than he was playing the 1 this year. Also, Senglin will probably see a few mins at the 2. Not having Mook will affect the team leadership wise. He is a talented and strong player and personally will really miss him, but Weber will have Hill, Bolomboy, Fuller, Fulton all available to play at the 4. Any of those guys could start on any other team in the Sky.

I think E. Wash, UNC, UND, and MSU will be better next year. Sac will be about the same. SUU will be rebuilding and PSU, not really sure. I think ISU improves because there really isn't anywhere else for the Bengals to go but up. NAU is the wildcard. They are going to be fairly young, but I could see them getting better pretty quick. Murphy has a pretty strong recruiting class coming in next year.

I was hoping Idaho joined next year. Oh well. I acutally like having more conference games. I hate playing all the NAIA and D2 crap games in preseason. I hope next year we get into a pre season tournament. So far from what I can tell we have non conference home games agains Oral Roberts, and Utah State next year. Our non conference road games are UVU, BYU and UT-Arlington. I really like what we have coming back next year. I believe we will be a favorite to win the Big Sky. Here is my very early pre season predictions for the 2013-2014 seaons and if I think the teams will be better worse or the same as this year.

1. Weber State. (Better than last year) There is som much talent and depth coming back. Coach Rahe is to where he just reloads every year. The one main thing is to where Weber is going to be far superior than the rest of the Big Sky is the play at the 4 and 5 positions. No other team has anything even close to what Weber has there. The guards are very very good too. Next year will be great.

2. Montana. ( A little worse than last year) They have the MVP coming back and some solid players around him coming back. I could see them slide a little more in the standings next year, but Tinkle is very very good and Montana will be tough again next year.

3. North Dakota ( Quite a bit better than last year) Huff is a great player and they have some very solid guys coming back. I could see them jump over Montana possibly. They just need som solid inside play and I believe they very well could be the second best team next year.

4. Norther Coloroado ( A little better next year) I have been on the UNC bandwagon for a while and next year is the year they compete for the top 4 spots. Undrah is the best shooter in the conference coming back and Barden is a beast. There is other good players here too. I was surprised they were not better this year. Maybe its bad coaching. Who know, but UNC is my darkhoarse next year.

5. Montana State ( About the same, but maybe a little better than last year.) MSU only loses Moon and Blount, but has some quality guards and some decent inside players coming back. I keep hearing that their coach might get fired after this year so who knows what kind of attrition that would bring if that happend. If it did then I could see MSU a little lower than this, but based on what I see, they will be competitive next year.

6. Eastern Washington ( Better than last year) I honestly was impressed with some of their Freshman when I watched them last week. Harvey and Jois are going to be very good. Rueter and Kelley are going to be solid too. They are still going to be very young next year, but in 2 years, look out for EWU. I wonder about their coach though. I honestly have not been impressed with him.

7. Northern Arizona ( About the same as last year) They lose some good players this year and they were only the 7th place team. I like Russel and Jacobson coming back, but who else? I heard they have some transfer this year redshirting, but other than that I don't see a lot of depth returing. They are still a couple years away from competing for the top 4 spots in the conference. I like their coach though and believe they are up and coming.

8. Sacramento State ( Worse than last year) They have McKinny and and Garrity coming back, but not much else and they were not great this year. I feel bad for Katz because I think he is a decent coach, but Sac St will be back in the bottom of the conference where they usually are.

9. Idaho State ( A little better than last year) I like Sanchez and Hansen coming back. Both solid players and Evans is a good coach. They will still struggle next year, but will be much more competitive.

10. Portland State ( Wrose than last year) They have the Winstons coming back and Moore is a decent inside player, but I think they are going to really stuggle next year. After watching them is thier last game against Weber State, there just is not much talent there.

11. Southern Utah ( A lot worse next year) Huir and Stevenette were like 80% of their team this year and they are both gone. I can see their coach going hard after some top JC talent becasue I just don't see where the points are going to come from next year. Hess is a good looking player, but nothing special.

Anyway, there you go. Im going to Montana Friday morning as long as we win tomorrow agains NAU. Im excited and think we can get it done in Montana. Next year I think could be speical too. Go Cats!!

liked your update, you should have started it in a new thread. the 2 constants in the current big sky are randy rahe and wayne tinkle. both are very good coaches; both are proven recruiters. i look for both teams to reload for 2013-14.

next yr would be the 3rd straight season of weber and griz as top 2. the last yr we didnt have weber or griz in the top 2 was 2007-08. that is very impressive of both programs.

I agree about having more conference games. The conference really struggles to get non-conference games and rather than play more road money games and lower division games, I would rather see more conference games. Next year will be a 20 conference game season, and when Idaho joins it will go to 16 or 18. Will San Jose St or Dayton return games next season? I doubt Dayton will, but if San Jose St does that would give Weber 3 home and 3 road, plus the 20 conference games. Add a tournament and maybe 1 lower division home game or money road game and that would be 29 or 30.

We should start a next year's schedule thread

What do you think the odds are Utah tries to get us to the Huntsman this next season? Hopefully Weber tells them to take a hike.

I have heard that San Jose State will becoming to the Dee next year, so that is another quality team in the Dee.

Home games: Oral Roberts, SJSU, USU

Road games: BYU, UVU, Texas Arlington

A DII queef, a tourny, and a money game.

If we did get invited to a tourney, which one would it be?

Back to Alaska?

Originally, Weber signed on to play two tournaments in Alaska. But that contract was cancelled for whatever reason, so I'm not sure where the Cats would play next year.

Since Rahe has been coach, Weber has played in Alaska twice (two seperate tournys), the Coaches Classic @UCLA twice, with the intention of playing the Bruins, yet both times Weber lost the first game, once to a lowly DII. They played at Saint Mary's beat tournament and got totally homered, and in Lolgan at the Cheese Classic (unforgettable comeback against Moorhead State in the second game). Am I missing one? Oh yeah, they played at some tourny in Louisiana when Lillard was a Freshman. I know that Weber was scheduled to play @ Wyomings tournament this past year, but once again that contract was cancelled. I hope the Wizard can find a good three day tournament for the Cats. Maybe at the Cheese Invitational again??? I wouldn't mind. It is close, and the Cats could potentially beat the Aggies a second time next season. Gotta win the first one in Ogden though.

Gotta hand it to Jumpin Joe. He was very adroit at finding tournaments for the Cats. Weber was routinely playing in two tournys a season. Same with Coach A. So far though, the Wizard has done a fairly good job. This season is the only season he hasn't had the Cats in a tournament.

Personally, I'd much rather see Weber play in a tournament against lowly DI competition than a home game against an NAIA squad.

That tourney your thinking of in Louisiana was actually in Mississippi, hosted by the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. We beat Texas Pan American in round 1 and then got waxed by Southern Miss in the final.

I like the 3 day tourney's more than the 2 day ones to. It's more exciting when you have to teams meet in the championship after winning two games, just like the way the Cottage Cheese Classic is played, 3 games in 3 days
